Vehicle Detail
This is a re-listing due to highest bidder (capybara128832) not responding to any of my e-mail correspondence after many attempts. So please, folks, only bid if you're serious. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the bus up-front, just call me at the number below. Up for auction is the much desired 1971 VW Type 2 Westfalia camper. As you might know, 1971 is probably the most desirable year, since it was the first production year with upgraded disc brakes, and last year with the desirable beetle engine. Best of both worlds. I bought this bus with the intention of a full restoration and have invested a lot of money in it. Most of the interior is redone and many essential mechanical parts are replaced. This bus is a daily driver that starts right up every time. As you can tell from the pictures, this bus seems to have been originally red. Personally, I love that color, and considering that the previous owners did not paint the inside and do a restoration standard paint job, I was planning on bringing it back to the original red. That being said, many people have advised me to keep it as-is because they like the personality it adds. Also, the curtains compliment the red/tan look very well. The curtains even have an original Nixon button from his 1972 campaign, which will follow the vehicle. Anyways, I've ran out of money and it's time to pass it onto a new home. Here's the good stuff: New hardwood flooring New front seat leather upholstery and solid leather upholstery throughout rest of the bus New pop-top canvas New top bunk fabric New child's cot for front area (not shown in pictures) New pop-top seals New brake calipers New brake pads throughout New brake booster New battery Engine has been rebuilt within last few years, although I have not been able to confirm exactly when. Starts right up and runs very strong, many parts appear new. Very solid body, minimal rust Very solid pop-top If you didn't already know, this bus model features: Foldable rear seats, making it a bed One person bed in the pop-top 1600 VW beetle engine (strong) Ice box and sink Electrical hook-up to bring 120V into the bus What you should also know: The radio is not hooked up. I bought it from a VW guy and never got around to hook it up. The bus does have speakers in the rear and front though. The paint job is not professional - a new paint job would bring it up to restored value. As you can tell, I started with the interior/mechanicals. It does not look "bad" now, and gets a lot of compliments, but personally I think a shiny coat of red paint would be perfect and bring it up to the (very expensive) restored showroom buses. Needs a new spare tire and some of the other tires show wear The windshield wipers just stopped working - I have not investigated this further yet, although it might be as simple as a fuse. The camping unit is missing a hose for it to be able to hold water. Everything should be there, but I actually only used the ice box. The basket in the pictures does not follow the bus. It was a gift from my family (not original VW), and just put there to put you in the camping "mood"... Being a 29 year old vehicle, this bus is a great survivor. Keep it as is for its personality, or complete the restoration. Either way, you have a great bus that is ready for camping. I have the title ready in hand. My guess is that I will probably get a lot of questions about whether or not you could buy this vehicle and drive it to the other side of the country. The answer is, I really don't know. I'm not sure if my VW Passat would make it to California, to be honest, and this is a 39 year old vehicle. I've driven this bus around New England without problems, but you never know. So with that said, I'm more than happy to pick you up at Logan airport if you plan to drive it home. If not, I'm happy to help you with shipping as well, dropping of at a shipping location nearby, or helping you with the research of a reputable shipping company. Although I have done my best to accurately describe the vehicle through words and pictures, I would recommend that you or a designated mechanic inspect the vehicle before committing to purchasing it through bidding. This vehicle is sold as-is with no warranty. You can call me at 617-319-5099 to schedule a good time and/or ask me any questions (please don't contact me about ending the auction early). I am happy to arrange domestic/international shipping, or pick you up from Logan airport in Boston if you want too drive it home. If you recently signed up for eBay and have zero feedback, please contact me via phone before bidding. I would like to verify that you are a serious bidder. If you don't, I reserve the right to cancel your bid until we talk. Anybody who contacts me to verify that they are a real person and serious bidder will be allowed to bid (or if you have positive eBay feedback). All sales are final, no refunds (including deposits), so only serious bidders please. This is a true no reserve auction - the highest bidder gets it! Good luck and happy bidding!
