Vehicle Detail

I have up for sale an unrestored 1986 Mercedes Benz 560SL. These cars were the top of the line Mercedes in 1986 costing over $60,000.00 new They are powered by a very powerfull 5.6 liter V8. These cars cars were made to fly on the autobahn. If you know anything about these then you know how desirable they are still to this day. A nicely restore 560SL will run you in the high teen's up into the $20,000 range. This car is unrestored and is in need of some repairs but will be a great car for the right person. Unlike some EBay sellers I will be as honest as I can about the car. Please remember this car is 25 years old now. Car has has a recent respray. I would say the paint is fair but not great. The previous owner did the repray which is done in a black matalic flake. It looks good from about 10-20 yards but you can notice the flaws as you get closer. There is a rock chip on the hood that was not repair properly, I included in photos. I just put brand new Goodyears on it all the way around. I also replaced the rear pads. The car starts right up every time. It idles fine in park, but idles a little rough under load. I drove it 500 miles recently and got around 20 MPG which is what it is rated. I believe the car needs valve work as it has developed an tick on the upper end on the passenger side. The oil pressure on the car is very steady which is why I belive it to be a valve issue. The runs and drives ok, but as with any old car that has sat as much as this one it is a little loose. The interior of the car is the best part. The carpet still looks good, the door panels are ok. The dash has been covered with an aftermarket cap. All the gauges work as they should, including the clock. The orginial Becker radio is still in it but doesn't play, needs to be reset at the MB dealer. Power antenna still works. The hard top is in good shape, the headliner is still nice. Convertible top is ok, but the back window needs replaced. The odometer stopped working on my most recent trip, which is a common problem on these. The carfax supports the mileage at around 83K. When I purchased the car the previous owner rewrote over the last number on the mileage so South Carolina titled it as not orginal miles. The car has some of the normal issues you would fine in an unrestored 560sl. The cruise, and AC both don't work. The driver side window regulator doesn't work properly. The glass is in good shape. I have been as straight forward as I can about the car but I am in no way a mechanic. The car is being sold as is. Please feal free to ask any qustions or have the car inspected. I am starting the car low with no reserve, the car will sell to the high bidder.
