Vehicle Detail

1969 PLYMOUTH BARRACUDA 340S Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 For sale I have a 1969 Plymouth Barracuda. This car is a story of love and obsession. Toward the end of the listing I have included the owner’s story, of love, loss and finding love again. Does it add even more value to the car? You decided! Despite the love story, the owner has decided that it is time for his treasure to find a new home. Take a close look at the photos as they tell the story better than any written description. She is not a trailer Queen, rather she is meant to be driven and enjoyed. She has been thoroughly redone, no stone left unturned, no half measures. You can drive this car away and expect to get where you are going. Catch a flight, hop in your new beauty and drive home. The cold weather is almost upon us, so you will have the winter to attend to those details that don’t really need doing. (Who can resist tinkering?) Or you can winterize her and bring her out in the spring with no need to do anything at all! This one clean and straight car, a beauty from front to back and underneath as well! This is the 340 S model and includes the ultra rare fold down rear seat as you can see in the photos. She runs well on Premium, no additives needed, and sounds wonderful even at idle. She is completely streetable. The car is being sold certified. It comes with a current appraisal and is described as "a very good quality modern classic muscle car." and "All mechanics of the vehicle have been reconditioned to keep the unit roadworthy and reliable" I have included the owner’s story below, enjoy the details and pay special attention to what was done to breathe life into her again. 1969 Plymouth Barracuda VIN: DH29P9B103412 DH29P9B103412 was assembled at the Hamtrack Michigan plant and with a T7 Saddle Bronze paint job and deluxe tan interior; this 340-S Plymouth Barracuda was displayed at the O’Keefe Centre in Toronto to showcase some of Chrysler’s model lineup for 1969. Delivered to Disney Motors in Pickering Village I purchased this car at age nineteen in the fall of 1969. This 340 c.i. 4 bbl automatic with the heavy duty “S” suspension and deluxe interior was my first new car which was my daily driver until I was forced to sell it eight years later in the fall of 1977 to take a job in Churchill Falls Labrador. For the next thirteen years it changed owners a few times with restoration in mind but was never licensed for the road during that time. I was able to track it down to a backyard east of Oshawa where the current owner planned on using the drive train for a race car but agreed to sell to me the remainder of the car. It had been neglected for quite some time and the torsion bar mounts, typical for unibody construction, were rusted out. The car went into storage until I purchased another 1969 Barracuda in April of 1993 from Lee Ellison Enterprises in Orangeville. The car was located in the Nevada desert sporting Texas plates and aside from its sandblasted exterior and a few cosmetic blemishes the body was as solid as the day it to rolled out of the Hamtrack Michigan Chrysler plant! The 318 c.i. engine and transmission were removed and the car was stripped down to a bare shell, wiring and all with only the steering column remaining when it was delivered to the body shop where twenty-four years of scrapes and dents were smoothed out, new hinge pins installed, a 340 6-Pack hood scoop was grafted on. The single exhaust rear valance was removed and replaced with the proper duel exhaust valance. The car was prepped and received a fresh coat of Chrysler F8 Ivy Green base coat, clear coat paint including the trunk and under the hood. The interior panels, console, dash and inside the doors were painted the proper corresponding shades of tan, bronze and brown. Once home again the radiator and heater were re cored, new carpet and headliner were installed as well as new side panels and front seat upholstery. The original rear seat upholstery was removed, a small seam tear repaired and reinstalled. The wood grain steering was sent away to have the cracks repaired and painted, the tan headrests also received new chrome trim, new wood grain appliqué on the console. The seat belts and rubber boots went to Ssnake Oyl Products in Louisiana for new webbing, cleaning and re dying to match the original factory interior. The dash and arm rests went to Just Dashes in California for repair and also dyed to the original colour. The dash went to Medford Oregon for plastic re chroming and painting. The factory AM radio and speaker were rebuilt by the Radio Doctor in London Ontario. A new wiring harness was installed under the hood as well as a new windshield washer bottle and battery hold down clamp. The proper “4-speed hump” was shipped from Texas and installed before this; the only new metal was thoroughly undercoated. The remainder of the car retained all of original metal and aside from the usual pre paint skim coat, required no Bondo or metal repair. Most of my original car was refurbished, restored, rebuilt or replaced and installed on the newly painted 1969 Barracuda fastback Texas shell. NOS parts were purchased as required and the completed vehicle is now a metallic green 340-S four speed car VIN DH29P9B103412. The A-frame was removed, sandblasted and painted before installing a complete high performance front end kit. New bushings, upper and lower ball joints and tie rod ends. A used 340 c.i. engine was located and shipped to Ed Weins Automotive in Niagara Falls, a specialist in rebuilding high performance engines. The engine was balanced and blueprinted with .40 over pistons and a slightly lumpy cam. Meanwhile the heads went to Roy’s Head and Cylinder shop in Thunder Bay where the valves were polished and new bronze guides installed, ported and polished then shipped to Niagara Falls to be installed on the finished engine. Wishing to keep the engine looking stock a pair of factory high performance cast exhaust manifolds were installed instead of headers and the duel point distributor was replaced with an electronic ignition. An Edelbrock 600 cfm carburetor was married to an Edelbrock dual-place high rise manifold and topped with a 340 air breather. The 4-speed transmission went to the transmission shop for two new bearings and a gasket kit. The flywheel was machined then the transmission bolted to the engine with a new clutch and pressure plate and installed with a Hurst “Dog Leg” shifter. The 3:23 posi-traction rear end, rear leaf springs, “S” suspension sway bar and drive shaft with new u-joints were installed. A factory after market front sway bar was also installed. The unibody including torsion bar mounts are original and solid. New Goodyear tires mounted on Mopar small bold rally wheels (sand blasted and painted argent grey) were installed with chrome trim rings and new centre caps. Urban Auto Group1060 Central Ave. Thunder Bay, ONCanada807-768-7226 (Hey everyone, this is Irvin’s first car listing, and I wanted to help him out with it. I did the write up and took the pictures, so any typo’s or poor photos are my fault. I took lots of shots so if you need some more pictures just let him know and he will send them to you. I’ve known Irvin for a few years now and he just gave me a great deal on a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan that is making my wife VERY happy. This is a great car he is selling and I am sure you will be very happy with it and with the service you will get from Irvin. I sell under blackcatthunderbay, and am happy to endorse Irvin as someone you can trust. )
