Vehicle Detail
1985 Chevrolet Camaro IROC. Rare Hardtop. Very solid rust free Arizona car. This car was manufactured in Van Nuys California and spent most of its life in Arizona. The way the car made it to Illinois is a college student from Illinois purchased the car while attending ASU and drove it back. He then blew up the motor and a friend of a friend of mine purchased the car. He then installed a GM crate 5.7L and had the transmission rebuilt. The crate motor has about 7,000 miles on it. I bought the car in fall of 1998 it has never been driven on salty roads. I have not done that much work to it in the twelve years since I have owned it. Besides the 5.7L upgrade the only other modification to the drive train are fuel injectors from a 1996 Camaro SS. The interior was originally tan and I changed it over to black. At the time there was not any aftermarket reproduction interior parts availed so I found a donor car. The interior is originally out of a 1988 RS. Mechanically the car is sound. It runs and drives well. The brakes, suspension and steering systems are all in good shape. The engine leaks a little oil from the valve covers, nothing serious. The AC system blows cold and still is charged with R12. As far as I can tell the car has never been involved in a serious accident. There may have been a fender bender at some point because some paint work can been seen on the lower driver fender. Most of the paint on the car is original. The car was originally equipped with a power driver seat but the donor car did not have one. The car has a rare overhead console option with a map light and a removable flashlight. Power windows work good, the power door locks stick sometimes. I installed the stereo system when I got the car and it still works well. The wheels are not the correct 16 inch IROC wheels. There is some curb rash to the front chin spoiler. This car would be perfect to make into a race car or for a resto-mod. Other than some door dings and rock chips the body is in great shape. Please take note of the floor pans, wheel openings, the bottoms of the doors and the underside of the car. The interior only shows very slight wear. There are not any cracks in the dash pad or arm rest. I am a 37 year old ASE Master Technician. I am the only person that has worked on this car since 1998 and I can assure you the car is not hacked up or abused. I would have no problems using this car as a fair weather cruiser in its current condition. If you have been looking for a solid third Gen to restore or modify this car would be a perfect choice.
