Vehicle Detail
1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL “Pagoda” Roadster!!!! For a human being, 40 years is a good amount of time, but to an automobile it’s an eternity! The ravages of time aren’t just from nature. Tastes change, trends die, and once-envied designs have a way of looking absurd. Once in a while though, an automobile endures despite all this, and ultimately, becomes a classic. Today that car is famous Mercedes-Benz 280SL “Pagoda” Roadster!!! What makes this particular “Pagoda” so special is that 1971 is the last year of production for 280SL’s and famous W113 body style. This beauty is one out of only 830 units produced that final year!!! Today, this beauty is almost 40 years old, and looks amazing, and charming, like the first day when it left the factory! About this Beauty: -Interior and Exterior Blue (#903H Blau) exterior paint has a very nice shine and luster, and coupled with its parchment interior, this car looks stunning! All chrome is complete and have a beautiful shine. Its beautiful and desirable color combination makes this Mercedes a real head turner and conversation piece everywhere it goes. This car has been always garaged, amazingly kept and to best of my knowledge it is rust free!! Please remember that this car was never fully restored, but it was very nicely kept, and due to its originality I am sure that some surface rust might be found, but I wasn’t been able to find any issues with it. It has been Arizona and Florida car its whole life, which explains its solid condition. Original welding dots, along front fenders, inner fenders, engine bay, trunk, as well as the half-moons in the back of the car are all sings showing originality of this Pagoda. Chassis plate (Karosserie) number, hood and the soft-top lid or “horse shoe” are all having a matching number ending in “025” (please see pictures in the album), which is another evidence of the originality of this Mercedes. Floor boards, wheel wells, inner fenders, frame and all other structural areas of the car are in great and solid condition, which today you can find on only handful of these cars. (PLEASE see detailed pictures in the Album) This Mercedes comes with both Hard Top, and the Soft Top. Hard top is in great condition, including all the glass, and wood around the rear window. Only exception is headliner which is original, and has a tear in it. Soft top is brand new, it is very easy to operate, and rear plastic window is crystal clear. Parchment Interior looks beautiful and like the first day it left the showroom floor! All wood is complete, breathtaking, and it has amazing shine! Carpet is beautiful, clean, and complete. Seats are like new, and structurally sound and very comfortable. Orignal Kienzle Clock will remind you of good ol’ times!!! Radio is working, and it sounds amazing! For those hot days when you want to take it for a drive with the top down, this beauty is equipped with “FrigiKing” Air Condition. Engine and Transmission This Mercedes is equipped with its original, legendary 2.8 Liter, straight 6 Cylinder, mechanically fuel injected engine, and automatic transmission. Driving this car is a pleasure, and its automatic transmission makes it real blast to drive. This Mercedes comes with original spare tire, jack, wheel chock and complete set of its original tools, NADA Values: (www.nada.com ) September 29, 2010 print this page email this page Original MSRP: $7,469 Low Retail Average Retail High Retail Base Price: $23,800 $29,200 $58,700 Options: SL Models Removable Hardtop 10% 10% 10% TOTAL PRICE $26,180 $32,120 $64,570 Today, the W113 Pagoda is considered a highly desirable collectors car, with current values for the 280 SL suggesting that it is the most desirable of the three models. With high demand for these cars, its value will only continiue to appreciate as they are becoming harder and harder to come by, especially the 1971 280SL, as it was the last production year for this legendary body style, and only 830 units was made in that final year!
