Vehicle Detail

Hi, and welcome to my ebay auction for my seriously sweet 1964 Mercedes 190c. Obviously since you are here, you know what this fine machine is all about and how truly rare it is these days to find not only one in this condition but in this color combination as well. I have had this for about 5 years now and it has never let me down.. I drive it as a pleasure vehicle and take great pride in keeping it in excellent condition. As you can see by my feedback, I believe in honesty and integrity and while the pictures speak volumes for the cars condition, allow me to delve into the finer details about this sweet machine. I bought this from a neighbor who at that time was having some financial difficulties.. He only had the car for a few weeks having bought it from a local party who was the original owner and has spent its whole life in California. It has approx 138K original miles on the engine and transmission and as far as I know they have never been rebuilt. It is a 1.9L 4 cylinder GAS motor with a 4 speed transmission on the tree (column). It has disc brakes in the front and the clutch is hydraulic. The car was originally purchased as a Tourist Delivery vehicle in Germany. It has the rare head rest and seat recliner options as well as a nice Becker AM/FM period correct radio. I have done several upgrades just recently that will ensure that you won't have any problems down the road. Some of these things you might think are weird that I would do since all Im going to do is sell it, but thats more the mechanic part of me that appreciates a nice machine and honestly, I wish more people thought that way.. it would be a better world for sure.. The interior is vinyl and has been re-dyed the original blue as a couple of sections had been replaced with not quite the correct color. I have also upgraded to 14" wheels because these cars originally came with 13" bias tires and correctly sized radials are impossible to find. The wheels are from a slightly newer Mercedes but still accept the correct hubcaps. This upgrade allows for the correct tire circumference which makes the speedometer more accurate and keeps RPMs accurate at freeway speeds. The ignition switch has been replaced with a new one as they tend to wear out the contacts out over the years. The seats are in excellent condition and are nice and firm. They are original and do not sag or have any rips or tears in them. The dash is recently repaired and resprayed as these are virtually impossible to find for sale in mint condition or even from Mercedes. The headliner is nice with no rips or tears and it doesn't sag either but does have a couple stains. All lights, switches, and gauges work perfectly. It is also non smokers car. On the road the engine simply purrs. You can barely hear it when idling and sometimes its just fun to sit and watch the engine as it really is incredibly smooth. It does not burn any noticeable oil or smoke and has excellent oil pressure. The coolant has always been flushed and kept at a 50/50 mix. Oil changes though I don't drive it much, have always been done. The original owner took it into the dealership religiously as can be evidenced by the service data in the owners manual. It also sits under my carport with a nice cover on it to protect it from the pain in the ass cats that think they own it. Recently I thought it would look better to repaint it the original color Since it has never been repainted before. I stripped the car down of all its chrome and weather stripping. I replaced the front and rear windshield gaskets with nice new ones. All the glass is original. The left fender was found to have been damaged at some time in the past and so I replaced it with an original '64 fender which my good friend provided for me. It was in perfect shape so all is good. I just didn't want to have a car that was filled with bondo. Nice thing about these old cars, you can actually FIX them instead of throwing them away.. I repainted the wheels as well as shined up the hubcaps.. There are 4 new tires on the car as well. The clutch was just replaced with factory original parts. It has been test driven for 50 miles and all is well. It purrrrrrrrs really nice. Essentially if it needed it, it got fixed.. and if it looked like it might be needing something, it got replaced. I wouldn't want someone to sell me a POS so I wouldn't do that to any of you.. Now, about the only bad part that I kinda messed up on.. I worked in a paint shop for a few years but my eyesight isn't what it used to be and the new paint revealed several small dings on the side of the car. You need to be looking for it to see them but like I said, I am honest and they might not show up in the pictures.. Also, the door rubbers are original and should be replaced. I want full disclosure and no disappointments so there you have it.. Maybe if I sell the car, I can afford new glasses.. HA! There is no rust anywhere on the car, no leaks though I wouldn't hit it with a high pressure hose at the car wash.. It is 46 years old ya know! It rides as a Mercedes should and its really hard to imagine that this was their entry point car in the lower priced field back in 1964, but you would never know it. The doors close like vault doors and the ride is smooth. You could fly in and drive it home without worries.. Its that good. In addition to the car, you will get a full set of owners manuals as well as a factory workshop manual for the car. If I have any extra parts you will get those as well. The jack and spare tire as well as the tool kit is present and are in excellent condition as well. Of course you can ask any questions you want as I am more than happy to answer them for you.. I can take pictures of any area you want as well. Please be serious about bidding on the car. I have taken great care in describing it as best as I could.. I am sure that I might have missed something so PLEASE ASK BEFORE YOU BID!!! And if you happen to be traveling in Nigeria or are a banker with access to great sums of money that my great great grandfather's third cousin 4x removed won in a lottery and you want to give it to me, Thanks, but I really don't need it.. I do have a short pier that I might trade you for if you are interested in something to take a long walk on... Please have the funds ready to pay.. I will assist in any way possible for shipping. Funds must clear before I release the car. I have the title in hand and it is clean, no salvage either. Thanks for listening and reading! Larry (408) 309-9857
