Vehicle Detail

greetings Chevy enthusiasts=== here is a rare 1960 El Camino pickup/sedan, that is from Texas. It is straight and very solid. ..and 50 years-old! STARTING AT $5950 WITH NO RESERVE!! (This car is advertised locally at $6850, so a ca$h offer may end this early) ==THE STORY== this is from northern Texas, and was sitting in a body shop for a while waiting on a repaint/restoration. The owner started taking things off to prepare for mechanical and paint/upholstery resto. The door panels were removed, headliner, brakes, fuel tank/lines, and engine. The engine was sent to a machine shop. The owner passed-away, and the car was eventually auctioned. The next owner bought and transported home to Houston. He intended on doing a resto. He installed a complete and new front suspension, all the way.(note: the photos of the suspension installation in gallery were shot by previous owner, provided for reference only) He used big-block springs, as he was going to look for a 348 or a 409 to install...so, it has that 1960's stance up-front with the present 283.. He found a running 1960 283 from another donor to see if he could get it to drive a round for a while. This is as far as he got. ==TODAY== the car is now in Indianapolis, and this great project is not financially possible for me to undertake at this time. ==THE DESCRIPTION== you are not likely to read a description and condition-report of a car that is more thorough or honest, coupled with over 135 crisp photos. I disclose ALL about my cars, so a guy that is looking in New Zealand has a real good feel for this car, reflecting closely an in=person inspection. ..There should be no question about the condition or surfaces after seeing many of these photos. I disclose with text and photos all of the worst flaws that someone would confront in-person. How many sellers do that thoroughly?===be confident in knowing exactly what you are considering spending thousands on..that's what I say. ==BODY== straight/super-solid. This car suffers from what all 1959/1960 Chevys had, a poor design of floorboards, and rust-out. All 4 floorboards need attention, and NEW replacements are included. Some rust-out goes beyond the new panels, and also at the back of cab at bottom of floor are rust holes, as seen in photos. The only other rust problems are behind rear wells, one side has had bondo applied a long time ago, and is cracking badly, and the passenger side is just exposed rust areas that have developed. There are a couple of small feather-fill areas of bondo, one on tailgate, and one on door window frame(strange place). The fender skirts seen in pics are the originals, with surface rust on back as seen. Inner/outer rockers are great. ==PAINT== what you see is the one repaint this car has had, not really that close to original, but similar tint. The original color is Suntan Copper, a beautiful vibrant color. Some areas of this are evident on inner doors under panels, etc. There is a great color factory photo that reveals it's intensity, that I will put in my gallery. The present paint is evidence that this car was in the sun baking , unprotected for many years. It is faded and blistered, with some rust spots from thin paint/loss all over the flat areas.. this is well documented in photos. ==DOORS== are really nice, many pics reveal this. Under doors is super, with only minor surface rust areas from paint loss if that..weatherstrip is gone, and old adhesive is seen. No rust holes. They open and shut well, with little effort. ==GLASS== the curved back glass, which is the most crucial here, is exceptional with zero damage. Door glass is good, no cracks. The vent windows are undamaged, but some bubbling and yellowing is evident. The vent cranks were removed(have them), but they have the worn-screw that needs to be backed, as many have fallen to this malady over the years. The windshield is OK, but shows some rock chips, and wiper swipes, very subtle on driver's side, worst swipe is on passenger side. It can be polished for a better visual apperance, but still may be tactally noticable. All of the window seals are cracked and shrunken from the sun-baking this car has received over the last 50-years. ==TRIM== ALL trim is present. The front bumper is straight and solid, showing pepper, scratches and thinning/clouding; typical original. Back bumper is fine, same cosmetic condition, except for a push-in on mid-section(have a nice replacement) and rust-hole in bottom of left guard(photo). There is also a nice left-half rear bumper in the parts-bounty that comes with this car. A few pieces of aluminum grill trim (eyebrow and headlight rings)are smashed/dented, as seen in close-ups. A few dings exist in side stainless trim. The "El Camino" emblems are very nice originals. The bed stainless is all present, typical usage dings, scratches and marks. Details photos reveal the areas. NO tonneau/tarp holes present!! Obviously, chrome shops can do wonders with restoring this stuff, polishing and straightening. ==INTERIOR== as mentioned the door panels have been removed, only one is present but rough. I have both of the top metal pieces for panels. Headliner is gone, but bows are there. Original gray paint is still on dash, showing fading and blisters/paint loss/corrosion. The original seat is exceptional in form and material condition, considering its age. It does have flaws/stains. The floors are as mentioned, rust areas and holes as seen in many detail pics. Photos are of floor with and without pans. Middle section under seat is firm and strong. Dash is complete. Only missing glove box liner. The correct rear-view mirror is missing. ==WHEELS/TIRES== the only wheel original to THIS car is the front driver. The others are period factory, and the spare rim is a correct '60. The rims are well-used and weathered. Tires are rollers, and hold air well...3 match. ==MISSING PARTS== the original COOL PAK Air Conditioning unit for under-dash, the rear passenger-side valance, and the rear-view mirror. ==BRAKES/EXHAUST= brakes and exhaust were removed in the shop, thus the car rolls/pushes easily. == ELECTRICAL== has not been tested in any way. The front engine compartment harness was removed; there are 2 present. The under-dash harness is out too, and it is here. ==FRAME== is very nice; no damage, no rusty issues. ==ENGINE/TRANS== the engine in the car is a 1960 283 donor, and was running enough for the previous owner to lot-drive and pull the donor car onto a trailer. Its not pretty, but might not take much to get running/driving. The donor-car was highly-optioned, as confirmed by the fan pulley and A/C compressor bracket. The trans is an original 1960 PowerGlide, that is hooked-up and shifting. This car had Dealer-Installed Air-Conditioning! ..the condensor and drier,, etc, are still under-hood and in place.==MANY PARTS== a lot of parts here come with the car. A photo reveals many parts, but many more included. (some photos of dispersed parts were shot by previous owner)The machined short block 283; May need to be shaved, if there is some spotting from exposure, but it has been protected and wrapped. Many of the greasy components from the original block are here, including the original generator, distributor, starter, carb, fan, etc. Many parts that have been accumulated over the years like 2 more radios, trim pieces, harnesses, a 3.08 rear(rebuilt?),etc. Many NEW brake parts are included here, like cylinders, hardware kits, etc. A new carrier bearing is here. New rear shocks. Lots of misc fasteners. ==TITLE== this car's title is clear, and is from Texas. This is a very desirable vehicle to restore, rod or sled/slam..... as many of these survivors are parts cars, or already customized or restored. These are getting REALLY hard to find at this stage, where you can take the ball and apply whatever vision you have to this car. It is one of those cars that looks customized without alteration. A perfect example to take either way, stock restore, Rat-Rod, street-Machine, mild-or radical custom. ==The car is currently being garaged, and comes with a new car cover, made to fit. This would make a super father-son/daughter, buddy-buddy, or even husband-wife project(how romantic)....start on it now, .... There is plenty of info provided here, between text and photos to encapsulate this cars integrity. There is still nothing like seeing the real-thing, so call if you're interest is sustained. Please do not insult me with a low-ball offer, as I'm not "lost"; I know exactly what I am offering. I'm on the NorthWest side of Indianapolis, Park100 area, 71st and Georgetown. It is easy access to 465 and 65, and I have had many-a-trailer bring and take cars from my location. Call Richard@ 317/331/2548, or 317/280/8273, from 9am-11pm, EST. I always welcome questions and additional photos if you don't see what you are curious about.... good luck, and thanks for your interest and patience....
