Vehicle Detail

The Studebaker Wagonaire was an unique Wagon built in 1963 and 1964 in the U.S. The wagon featured a retractable sliding rear roof section that allowed the vehicle to carry items that would be to tall for a standard car of the era. The designer of the unique roof was Brooks Stevens, who also designed the Jeep Wagoneer. The 1963-64 Daytona version of the Wagonaire could be considered the forbearer of the current "pocket rocket wagon" fad, when equipped with a V8 and Carter 4-barrel carburetor. This Wagonaire is the Daytona model equipped with the Studebaker 259 cubic inch V8. The car is equipped with the following options: Roof Rack (chrome very nice), Radio (plays), Deluxe wheel covers, Stainless steel exterior window moldings, Vanity mirror glove box, Factory Studebaker front seat belts (perfect condition), and Retractable sliding roof (very rare). This Studebaker is a very nice driver and could be taken to car shows. It is not a show car. The car was restored many years ago, but still shows well. The odometer reads 91,260 miles. The car starts, runs, drives, stops and handles well. It can be driven at highway speeds. The exhaust is good and the tires are new. The prior owner states that the engine was rebuild. The tranny shifts fine. Overall, the car is in very good running order. The paint is nice, but not fresh. The body is solid. There are no overt areas of rust or bubbling in the paint. The tailgate, which is a problem area for wagons, shows no rust and the outer edges are clean. The chrome and stainless are very good. The front and rear bumpers have been rechromed. The roof rack is in great shape. The rear tail lights have some fine pitting, and are the the only marginal pieces of chrome on the car. The interior is very nice with the seats having been redone, and in the correct pattern and color. The door panels are excellent originals. The headliner is original and in good shape. The dash is nice and the gauges are clear. The steering wheel is a very nice original. The dash pad is original, and has several small cracks (does not show well in photos). The dash pad is the only part of the interior that needs repaired. The rear seat folds down for more cargo space. The glass appears to be all original, and clear. There are no cracks, chips, or defects in any of the glass. All of the windows roll up and down with ease, including the rear tailgate glass. The gauges are all functional, and in working order. All of the lights are in working order, including the back-up and courtesy lights. The turn signals, horn, and radio are also working. This is a very unusual and unique Studebaker wagon. The car needs nothing to be a great daily driver, and driven to car shows. Please feel free to email me with any questions.
