When Carroll Shelby stuffed a big Ford V8 into a little 2-seater sports car, he proved the best way to fast fun is high horsepower in a small, light weight package. This Mazda Miata is a modern twist on the old formula. Stuffed inside this sexy, light weight Mazda Miata body is a 500+ HP supercharged Ford 331 V8. It’s coupled to a 5-speed Borg-Warner T-5 transmission. A laddered frame ensures the car doesn’t twist itself into a pretzel when you stomp on the loud pedal. The rumble of the Ford V8 announces the arrival of this muscular Miata, letting everyone know it’s not your average Japanese sports car. Front and rear fender flares neatly integrated into the body give this Miata a masculine look. Lowered, with 5-spoke Monocoque three-piece wheels, this Miata has a clean and purposeful look. Details abound everywhere, such as the Cobra-style flip-top gas cap and polished mirrors and door handles. A four-point roll bar adds a measure of safety. Up front, there are pop-up low profile headlights and a louvered hood. Out back, there’s a rear deck lid spoiler with an integrated Lexus SC400 brake light which improves looks and aerodynamics Inside, the Miata features leather seats, a shortened aluminum shifter, yellow instrumentation, fuel pressure and boost gauges, and a AM/FM/CD stereo with headrest speakers. Keeping this Miata stuck to the ground are coil-over Koni adjustable shocks, with 225 tires front, and 265 tires rear on 16” Monocoque three-piece wheels. Four piston caliper Wilwood brakes with cross-drilled rotors mounted on Mazda RX7 R1 hubs and spindles ensure the car stops as fast as it goes. This car was purchased new in 1995 and has belonged to the same meticulous adult owner its whole life. It’s never been in an accident, and is well-sorted and ready to drive. There is a small chip in the driver front fender lip (see photo). This Miata has a clean title, and has been approved by the California Smog Referee and has a CARB scan so passing smog tests is no problem.
