Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This Glacier Green RT is equipped with ABS, the BMW system luggage cases, a friction throttle lock from Bob’s BMW, an electric adjustable AeroFlow windscreen, the BMW tool kit, maintenance manual on a CD, a custom battery charging connection, a Garmin GPS mount 010-10484-00 that fits the GPSMAP 176/196/276/296 GPS units (I need my GPS for other uses, so it is not included and the mount can easily be removed) and it comes with both the stock seat and a Corbin seat. It has 31,723 miles on it. The oil and filter was changed (synthetic) at 30,900 miles. The rear tire was changed at 29,960 miles. The front tire was changed at 29,810 miles. The driveshaft was serviced and the gear oil was changed, valves adjusted, front brake pads replaced and the 12,000 mile periodic inspection completed at 27,881 miles. The battery was replaced in April 2010. This RT has been very reliable and overall has been an excellent motorcycle. I have decided to go in a slightly different direction with motorcycles and recently purchased a BMW K1200S. I purchased this excellent running BMW RT on 8/30/2002 with 19,966 miles on it. I was informed by the dealer that I was the second owner. The previous owner had traded it in on a Honda Goldwing Trike. Unfortunately the BMW had been sitting for several months at the Trike dealer before I looked at it and the battery was dead. The dealer, unfamiliar with the operating characteristics of the RT, jumped the battery and let the RT idle for over 15 minutes to “charge the battery”. During this time the exhaust pipes got red hot and blistered the paint on the fairings, most noticeably on the right side. I have taken several pictures to show the cosmetic damage. It also was then that I discovered the one and only nagging problem with this RT. If the battery voltage is not sufficient, the ABS system will go into a fault mode. The RT will crank and start at this voltage, but the ABS system does not like it. ABS fault reset instructions are included in the tool kit. To alleviate this problem I ultimately switched to using Odyssey batteries. I just purchased a new battery in April of this year. Other than this issue, I have had only one other mechanical problem. Two years ago the RT just suddenly stopped running. I pulled over into a driveway and was unable to get it started. I came back the next day with a truck to haul it to the dealer, however it started right up! I still took it to the dealer to have it checked and they could not locate any problems and speculate that there was some water in the gas. Other than that issue, it has been simply routine maintenance. In the last couple months, if the bike sits for a couple of weeks, there seems to initially be a minor drag in the front brakes, which goes away in a few miles. So there may be an issue developing, although the dealer serviced the front brakes about 4,000 miles ago. Other BMW 1100’s have had engine surging problems, but this RT does not have nor has it had any surging issues while I have owned it. The transmission has always been a little balky to get in 1st gear and is clunky on shifting, but my dealer tells me that this is common with the 1100 series bikes. In so far as other issues, several years ago at the BMW National rally in Charleston, WV, I dropped the bike getting it on its center stand while on a sloped parking lot. This scratched the RH mirror, engine guard and side storage case (vertical scratches) and put a small tear in the Corbin seat along with some scuff marks. I have pictures that show the damage. I also once cut the corner too tight pulling out of my barn and put some horizontal scratches on the RH side storage case. There are some small scratches on the LH engine guard from my son hitting the bike with the mower deck pulling my tractor out of the barn. There are some light scratches on the LH mirror which I don’t know where they came from and some various small paint chips from normal riding. Finally, there is a screw missing from the RH side fairing just above the brake pedal. I don’t know when it fell out. If you are unfamiliar with BMW motorcycles, owning an older bike is not a problem. Unlike the Japanese manufacturers that stop stocking parts after approximately 10 years, BMW dealers fully support the older bikes with both parts and service. Hopefully this, along with the pictures, will provide a full and complete description of this motorcycle and its history. I don’t believe there are any other mechanical or cosmetic issues, other than what has been described. I have started this auction at a fair starting point and do not have a reserve. I can assist in delivery in the state of Ohio and possibly a little further for a reimbursement of expenses. Otherwise all delivery expenses are the obligation of the buyer. A minimum deposit of $500 is due 48 hours after the end of the auction with the balance due in 7 days or before the motorcycle is shipped or picked up.One additional note, this is actually the R1100RTL. However when I purchased the bike, it did not have the radio. I was told the wiring is there to add a radio, but I have never verified that as I was never interested in adding it. Subsequently, I have listed it as a R1100RT.
