Vehicle Detail

This is a US Version 1964 Fiat 600 D, # 100 D *1503296*, 79,387 miles shown on the odometer. The exact history of this car is not quite clear, but I was told it was purchased new by the last owner. The car has a front bumper sticker from Fort Silt in Oklahoma, and the last registered Ohio plates are October of 1983. The car was brought to me to get running, but after the car was evaluated the son of the last owner decided to bail on it. I can determine that the engine is a factory replacement engine (there is proof that the last engine lost a connecting rod), and the transaxle has been replaced (just look at how clean it is!).There is a rebuild starter installed. The car was delivered to me with the entire left front suspension removed from the car (I have quickly installed it ONLY so the car can be rolled on four wheels). My inspection shows that the left front inner wheel bearing has failed ruining the front hub & drum, so it will either need to be bored & sleeved back to the original diameter or replaced (I can provide a used one for an extra fee). The left front king pin has been rebuilt, and I installed a new upper bushing so I could roll it around. All indications show that the car was running & driving when the wheel bearing failed. Overall the car is in reasonable condition, but all of these years of sitting, and the climate the car was obviously run in, have taken their toll. On the body it seems to have never been wrecked as the paint is 100% original, but there is some rust. The floors http://www.fiatplus.com/1955-68-left-floor-pan-w-rails-pr-278800.html & http://www.fiatplus.com/right-floor-pan-w-seat-rails-pr-278801.html, inner rockers http://www.fiatplus.com/right-inner-rocker-panel-pr-284670.html & http://www.fiatplus.com/left-inner-rocker-panel-pr-284671.html, and outer rockers http://www.fiatplus.com/1955-64-l-outer-rocker-panel-pr-279859.html & http://www.fiatplus.com/1964-68-right-rocker-panel-pr-284673.html all need to be replaced. The area behind the rear wheels is also bad http://www.fiatplus.com/rt-r-wheel-arch-repair-panel-pr-279861.html & http://www.fiatplus.com/left-r-wheel-arch-repair-panel-pr-279862.html and could be replaced with new metal. There are lots of other minor areas that need help metal wise, but from experience I can tell you that all of this is really not that bad! But it's going to take an experienced welder to replace all the metal correctly. The original paint is done, so it needs to be repainted. Any restoration of this magnitude will require new rubber, and I can provide all of that also. The left door latch is broken, but we have new ones. All of the glass is there, but the left door roll up glass is scratched. You will either need to replace it or polish it. The brakes all need to be rebuilt, from the hydraulic cylinders and flexible hoses, to the brake shoes. And I stock all of those parts. The tires that were new years ago are shot from age, and we have those. And we even have white walls as USA cars originally came with! The car smells of rotten fuel, so the entire fuel system will need to be rebuilt. If you don't want to clean & reseal this gas tank, we have new ones, along with the fuel pick up & sending unit, the fuel pump, and since the carburetor is the Solex unit that you cannot get parts for, I even stock new Weber 28 carburetors. On that clean transaxle, the axle boots need to be replaced because of their age, and those are in stock. The engine's oil pan has had a funky repair done that is leaking, and we can solve that. I am sure the cooling system will need full service, so plan on rebuilding the radiator, replacing the cooling fan shroud, and all of the hoses. All in stock. And if you live in a hot climate we often suggest an auxiliary radiator for under the car. And we stock those. It's going to need a battery. You can get one at any auto parts store. All of the cables, from the front trunk release to the accelerator cable all are there, but most seem to have some kind of funky repair done, so plan on replacing them all. All in stock. And that factory replacement motor is seized. So plan on at least soaking the cylinders with ATF to see if they let go. But probably it will need to be disassembled, bored, valve job... You get the picture, and all of the parts are available. The interior is showing it's age. It's all there, including what was once a new rubber floor mat set that has never been installed. Plan on reupholstering the seats & door panels (all available), new foam (in stock for the front seats), and new seat straps (also in stock). The front seats are the original optional reclining seats! Even the original headliner is there! All in all this is an excellent original car that is only missing a battery and the front emblem http://www.fiatplus.com/center-front-horn-cover-pr-278856.html that needs a complete restoration. Of course I can assist with any part of the restoration, and could even provide a new turn key car if you want. If you want to see any additional pictures let me know, and I am willing to answer any questions you may have. This is the initial offering of this car, so if it does not sell now you won't seen it offered this cheaply again. If you want to inspect the car (highly suggested!) it can be done by appointment ONLY. The car is in Santa Cruz California, and I have all of the papers from the previous owner and can provide a bill of sale from me to you. Remember, this is not a car you can pump up the tires on, install a battery into, and drive home. You will need to trailer or transport it. I require a deposit within 48 hours of the end of the sale, and full payment within a week. I expect the transportation of the vehicle will be arranged within that week, but if you want me to store it for you I charge $50.00 per week for secure outdoor storage payable in advance. Please don't bid on the car unless you are planning on buying it. Oh, and Ernest Taylor at 279-4829, I have your glasses! The car can include the unopened deck of Benson & Hedges playing cards, Ernest's glasses, and an open jar of Vaseline if requested! If I restore the car I will also restore Ernest's glasses as they are a very important part of this car's history as obviously Ernest hid them there so he would not have to wear them! On Aug-30-10 at 20:41:09 PDT, seller added the following information: There have been some questions about the title. The title is from Ohio and it is signed by the registered owner. There is a bill of sale from the son to me. I can provide a bill of sale from me to you, along with all of the original paperwork I have.
