Vehicle Detail

My wife and I purchased this car in North Dakota over 20 years ago with intention to fix it up…but never did. I added lap belts and we drove it summers in the late 1980s early 90s, but almost exclusively around town. Last licensed in 1997. Longest road trip I took with it was Bismarck, ND to St. Cloud, MN and it ran beautifully. Cruised through the night at 75–80+ -- and had a LOT of throttle left. Engine starts easily and runs smoothly, but with that deep, throaty rumble of a big Healey. The transmission (with overdrive) shifted without problem when it was last on the road. Ran straight & true to the best of my memory. Cannot be driven at this time -- brakes are not in working condition -- and it has no insurance or valid plates. Replaced exhaust system about 800 miles (and 15 years) ago -- still strong. Floors, which I believe are original, seem solid throughout. Doors fit well. New battery, extra spoke-type rim, and Haynes Owners Workshop Manual included. I know almost nothing about the history of the car other than I am at least the third owner. My speculation is that the front end was damaged at some point and replacement parts were salvaged from another big Healey. Front outriggers are bent and the bumper, therefore, is slightly off kilter. I think the rest of the frame is straight. Has had a history of oil leaks. A small weld in the front bumper is hidden behind the vertical upright parking bumper. From the serial number, it is a Mark III, but the winged emblem on the front is from a Mark II. It would be fair to say there are issues. Here's a list; · top is torn and needs to be replaced/refitted to the line of the windshield; · directional indicator lever, mechanism and housing missing -- steering wheel cracked; · wiring harness should be replaced; wires to back end of car broken (I think by rodents); · interior needs work; windows raise and lower, but with difficulty; · short in electric tachometer – does not register; · runs now with electric fuel pump (I have the original pump & will include it); · windshield has cracks in upper driver corner; · rubber questionable throughout; old tires; · major rust-through spot on driver side dogleg (replacement piece included); · had issues with some rust in gas tank when last driven regularly; double fuel filters took care of it; · dogear on generator bracket broken off, but charges fine; · no engine number tag (at least that I have found); · internal bracing inside trunk holding rear bumper is cracked on drivers side. Even without being completely cleaned up, this car turned heads wherever it went in the 1980s. Will really stand out in 2010! It is a thrill to drive and, fixed up, could be a great classic investment. On Aug-16-10 at 14:11:12 PDT, seller added the following information: healeymn Store
