Vehicle Detail

I own a very busy Mercedes Benz shop, it breaks my heart letting this 240D go. But I just don't have the time to work on all these project cars. So starting today I will list everything I got as a mechanics special. Up for auction is my 1983 240 Diesel, with a 4 speed, manual transmission. This was a project car and I don't have the time to finish it. When this Benz came in my possession it was not running. The previous owner had an injection pump installed from a 1974 model. I also found the timing completely off by 180 degrees. I installed an injection from an 1983 parts I kept at my shop. The engine started instantly. Somebody in the past replaced the motor with a OEM Mercedes replacement engine, but, they never finished installing everything because they ran into the following trouble. The engine they installed is from a 1979. No problem, except the pulley offset is different. They should have replaced the pulleys from the original engine. Instead they used the crank pulley from the 1979, the alternator and power steering pump from the 1983. Of course that set up won't work. When I got the car, the original engine and therefore the correct pulleys, weren't with the car anymore. So I found the correct crank pulley. I did NOT find the correct water pump pulley, that is needed to match everything else. The 240 has a brand new battery, brand new glow plugs and valve cover gasket and a brand new set of belts. The valves were just now adjusted. The body is very solid and straight, although there is some rust and holes in the trunk area. The parts you see missing are available, like the radiator etc. Upon pick up you will see, the engine starts right up and runs very nicely, but in order to finish the car, you have to perform the following repairs. Remove the injection pump to install a new freeze plug that was missing on the engine block. I used two rubber shock mounts with washers and a bolt to seal it for the time being. It was a weekend and I wanted to make sure the engine even runs before I started going deeper. The freeze plug is easy to install once the pump is removed. Also, there is no AC compressor installed. The sunroof was sealed shut. But it is a manual sunroof and I doubt it's broke. Most likely the previous owner had leaks and suspected the sunroof. Some people.... The paint is not bad, but getting close to the car you will see chips and dings all over. With the missing parts at hand, a mechanic can finish this 240D in one single work day!!! I am selling this 240D without any kind of warranty. sold AS IS, Where Is. Buyer is responsible for pick. The 240D needs to be trailered or towed. Due to the pulleys, and the none installed radiator, it CAN'T be driven, only onto a tow truck or trailer. Take a moment to check my ebay feedback. I don't lie, or add any sugar to my listings. My flawless feedback speaks for itself. If you have 0 feedback, you need to contact me prior. If you don't, I WILL cancel your bid!!! Good luck bidding, and if you have any additional questions, feel free to ask. I respond within an hour or two at the very latest. --Martin
