Vehicle Detail

This auction is for a 1980 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am 4.9L Coupe (2 Door) The Pontiac Trans Am production began in 1969 and only a few hundred were sold that year. As the years progressed, the muscle car era and the days of the high-horsepower engine greatly digressed. Emission regulations, increase in oil prices, and increases in safety policy brought this glorious era to its knees. During this time, the popularity of the Trans Am steadily increased, thanks in-part to its relatively powerful engine, good handling, and styling. In 1977, Burt Reynolds' "Smokey and the Bandit" was released and the cars place in history was secured. 1980 model year Trans Ams could now be ordered with a widening array of luxury items in attempt to broaden its appeal to those who were interested in the performance image of the car, but did not want to sacrifice the creature comforts of other cars in the same price class. These included new digitally tuned stereo radios, additional acoustical insulation packages, and a new seat covering style. Inside, there were few detail changes. The base seats were still finished in Oxen vinyl, but the headrests were no longer pleated to match the remaining seating surface. Custom interior was still available, either in Doeskin vinyl or in Hobnail cloth. The speedometer was changed, abiding by new federal laws which limited the speedometer to 85 mph. This 1980 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is finished in a rare Fiero Bronze (I am told only 200 were ever made for Canada). It has the Iconic Firebird hood decal, and Original 1980 "Turbo Gold Wheels" in great condition. This car is an original "Turbo" car.The exterior has all the original gold decals Iconic to the 1980 "Turbo" cars. The Fiero Bronze with Tan trim vinyl interior and camel seats is in good condition. Other than a spot of fade on the spoiler and decal (see pictures), a few minor dings the car shows well for its age. No rust marks with solid underbody. Turn key. The car has original radio and aftermarket CD player (which can be removed easily to put in the original radio) cigarette lighter in the dash still works. All of the gauges work. Dashboard is amazingly clean with no cracks or blemishes. It has the 4.9 liter V8 motor, automatic transmission, power steering and AC. The glass is in very good condition and all the lights work. The turbo 301 engine runs strong (I was told by the previous owner…I have not tried it) and the car drives excellent. The car starts right up and the idle works very well. The car has great throttle response, feels tight and is a pleasure to drive. This Canadian Edition car was purchased new at Hawley Pontiac Buick Cadillac dealership in Mississauga, Ontario. The ownership has always been in Ontario. It comes with the owner’s manual and bill sheet. Lovingly maintained. The first owner owned it all along except past couple of years. He had documented every oil change since Day 1, stored it in a heated garage every winter. The second owner had it for a year and put in approx 2000 kms. I purchased it past fall to enjoy it this summer but temptation got the better of me and I have to give this up for a Chevy Nova. I have not even put in 200 kms. This is one of the nicest, unrestored 1980 Edition Turbo Trans Am. Received many compliments. SOLD “As Is”. I can take any pictures if someone wants to see a certain area. It is very hard to find one of these cars in such great shape after all these years and it is truly a testament to the care of this car that after all these years it looks so good.
