Vehicle Detail
It is with great sadness that I must put my prized and rare 1988 NX650 up for sale. If you are not familiar with the NX650, this was an outstanding dual-sport bike that was imported into the US for 1988 and 1989 only. However, it was available worldwide as the Honda Dominator until 2000, and it's bulletproof air-cooled 4-stroke single and transmission is still available in Honda's 1993-current XR650L, so parts are easily obtainable. Within the last 700 miles, I have replaced the clutch, tires (Shinko 705's), all wheel bearings, O-ring chain and sprockets, chain slider, brake pads/shoes/fluid, spark plug, installed a K&N air filter and crankcase breather and performed a full tune-up per the factory service manual (which will be included with the bike). It's a Honda, so there is PLENTY of life left in this great-looking bike. Performance modifications include an ‘03 XR650L front-end conversion (43mm forks and triple trees with new bearings, brake line and caliper, speedo drive, wheel, and Acerbis supermoto fender); SuperTrapp 2-into-1 muffler; custom unrestricted air box; the popular “Dave’s XR650L carb mods”, and a custom dipstick/oil temperature gauge. I have also spent a lot of money at bikebandit.com to replace missing/broken items to bring this bike back to original, including reflectors, foot peg rubbers, cables, hoses, helmet lock, chain slider, labels, tool kit (95% of it, anyway) and bag, and various pieces of hardware and fittings. I’ve also mounted a rear rack from an ‘89, which itself is rare and expensive, and a EUDM rear taillight/lower fender; it had Renthal handlebars installed from the previous owner. The only original pieces that I do not have are the handlebars, smog parts, and the seat cover; all other original pieces will be included with the sale (forks and clamps, complete front wheel (no tire), brake caliper, speedo drive, fender and bracket, standard US rear lower fender and taillight, complete stock air box, filter and oil dipstick). Spare and extra parts included are a 13-tooth front sprocket, spare XR650L front brake caliper, carb jets for different altitudes, pulse generator, throttle cable, tire tube, header pipes for the SuperTrapp, and a Moose Racing gasket set. The plastics are not perfect, but they are all there; the few needed repairs have been made with care and attention to retaining the original look and durability, and were limited to the back sides to fix mounting pegs. The only repair I haven’t tackled yet is the right fairing by the through-bolt (see picture). The tank is dent-free, but does have some small scratches which have been touched up. Please see the pictures for more detail. The bike runs great, and is very responsive with the carb mods, even after putting the stock exhaust back on. The bike does not smoke, even during start-up, and has never leaked oil. Suspension is tight and the bike handles well, though the rear shock is a little soft from age. This bike has NOT been neglected, or left forgotten in a storage unit for years on end. It's been ridden, as it was intended to be, and as it wants to be. I have every confidence that you can ride this bike for as far as your body can handle, and then some. Mind the fuel and oil, and she'll run forever. The bike has a clean title and is currently registered and inspected in NJ. Delivery/shipping will be the responsibility of the winning bidder. Please email me with any questions. Thanks for looking, and good luck. This is a used vehicle, being sold as-is, with no warranty. On Jul-23-10 at 11:01:02 PDT, seller added the following information:I have successfully located the missing smog equipment and will include it with the sale of the bike.On Jul-27-10 at 20:39:45 PDT, seller added the following information:The person I was getting the EGR parts from cannot locate them at this time, so they may not be available at the close of the auction. If he is unable to find them, I'll look elsewhere to replace them.
