Vehicle Detail
needs work! for sale is a 1968 Mercury Montclair 2 door hardtop fastback. 390 2-barrel X-code. 10.5:1 compression, premium fuel only. with a C-6 Automatic transmission. There were only 3400 2 door hardtop cars made in 1968. This car is very rare. Right now the engine is making noise that I can't diagnose. I am not a mechanic. I bought the car to restore but i have been recently laid off from work. I do not have any more money to put in her. Many parts have been replaced already. The car has new carburetor, spark plugs/ wires, distributor, rotor and cap, new lifters, push-rods, camshaft, oil pump, water pump, thermostat, radiator hoses, radiator cap. After the installation of all these new parts is when the noise started. I also can't get the car timed properly. My timing light is jumping on the harmonic balancer. This issue can be something minor, something loose thats tapping, oil pump shaft, but i've been also told it could be a rod bearing, cam shaft bearing, or main seal. I don't know for sure. The car starts and runs beautifully other than noise. It could be something that I don't know about the timing. If you have any advice on this issue, please tell me. I would love to fix this car. Put if not, i have to sell. Also the car has no muffler. I have a brand new in the box cherry bomb for the car that will go with the sale. The body is in really good shape. The only issue is the rear bumper, it's bent a little on the passenger side. Paint shines nicely and chrome is not pitted. The car won a couple of trophies this year at some local car shows. Interior is again in really nice shape. There is a tear in the driver side seat. Other than that the door panels are spotless, the headliner intact. Beautiful car. Call me with any other questions about the car. I am willing to try and deliver the car locally, but i would plan on having it trailered. I hate to part with her, but without knowing how to fix i will have to sell. A good mechanic could probably easily fix this car cheap. NADA valued this car at fair/good condition for over 8500. This car looks better than "fair". Come see the car. Call me 732-407-4280 ask for Chris. Serious inquiries only please. Thanks for looking
