Vehicle Detail
A wonderful survivor! This 1979 Triumph Spitfire 1500 is stunningly rust-free. It is believed to be a two-owner car, bought from the original owner by a gentleman who intended to restore the car with his son. A tragic accident that killed the father left the Triumph, untouched, and now in the son's name. Not able to keep the car in climate controlled storage as his father had arranged, he was forced to find a new home for this beauty. The Spitfire fires up immediately and while it is not a show-ready car it does run and drive great. The rescue of this car was performed by myself and a friend with extensive knowledge of these classics. He has driven the car 120 miles including 45 minutes of highway driving and the Spitfire doesn't miss a beat! The tires have aged in storage and show cracking, likewise the convertible top has seen better days. It performs as a roof just fine, but the windows no longer remain. The fuel gauge doesn't fire up, but the car will come with a full tank of fresh premium gasoline. The car is 100% rust-free with the exceptions being the light surface rust in places where the original paint is chipped, and again, surface rust below the brake-booster where brake-fluid has removed the paint. The carburetor has just been rebuilt, the alternator is a brand-new unit from Victoria British. The Triumph has just been completely tuned up with all new plugs and ignition parts. A brand-new battery has been added also. The windshield was broken at some point going in or out of storage, but I am including a NEW WINDSHIELD with the car, along with the rear view mirror. The door glass and mechanisms are in good working shape. The trunk includes the factory spare tire and jack. The shift-knob is missing, but the front bumper uprights (plastic/rubber verticals) will be included. The drivers mirror is missing it's glass and the interior has smells a bit of musty old-car. The title is a clear and ready for transfer. Personal delivery of the vehicle is available based on time constraints, agreement of a mileage rate and payment in full. Be sure to see the videos of the engine starting and running at the bottom of the page. The hood was rattling in the video...the engine runs smooth and quiet. On Jul-18-10 at 12:09:34 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention that unlike a lot of british classics, and older cars in general, the spitfire doesn't leave a spot of oil anywhere on my garage floor! On Jul-18-10 at 15:25:28 PDT, seller added the following information: I should have mentioned that in the video, I am turning the car off and then restarting it several times to show how easily the car starts. Somebody thought the car was dying. The car will idle until it runs out of gas if needed. :)
