Vehicle Detail
1973 AMC JAVELIN NO RESERVE!!! LOW STARTING BID!!! A definite collector's dream, this car was purchased last year from the owner of a classic car dealership who had it for just 2 months. They purchased it directly from the estate of the original owner who had the car for 37 years since it was brand new. So technically, I am the second non-dealer owner. This car was originally purchased from Coon Bros. AMC in Detroit, Michigan which was AMC's highest volume dealer on Plymouth Rd just down the street from AMC's World Headquarters. The buyers copy of the original invoice showing original purchase price, VIN, stock #, sales tax, etc. is included with this sale. Also included is the original owners manual. This is the much sought after 1973 AMC Javelin with the very powerful 360 V-8. This car was never modified and has the original engine and drivetrain. The car is very straight with no dents. The passenger side front fender was scratched by something but it is very minor damage that can be sanded & re-painted easily. Please review all the photos for a complete detailed description and ask questions you may have before bidding on this great running car. With a little tender love & care this car could be made into a nice show car. The car starts right up and runs like a top. The automatic transmission shifts very smoothly. The car has the automatic factory floor shifter with console and storage compartment/armrest. The storage compartment lid is loose and needs to be fixed. The interior is the original factory cloth seats. Headliner is intact and not sagging. All gauges work except the dash clock. The AM/FM radio and cassette player functions well. Wipers, lights & turn signals all work fine. The car has a brand new top of the line battery. New front shocks were installed shortly after I bought it. Oil change, radiator coolant flush and new air filter have been installed. Car has a new muffler. Nice new Javelin embroidered floor mats have been recently installed and are included. Rear quarter panels are rusted out. I've seen replacements on ebay for $130 each and elsewhere on the internet for $179 each. This car is by no means in perfect condition and is a great candidate for a restoration project. Remember, this is a 38 year old used car. What is really nice is that it runs great, shifts smoothly, no broken glass, and a straight body with a very decent interior. A really great starting point for a restoration project or just use as a great daily driver. There is some rust around the rear window in an area where these Javelins were notorious for getting rust. See pictures. The original owner kept the car garaged when not being driven and had all scheduled maintenance performed including regular oil changes. The car was very well maintained. The car lived most of it's life in Marietta, GA. This car has the original factory 14" slotted sport wheels, sport steering wheel, interior hood latch release, tinted glass, all season factory air conditioning (needs to be re-charged) with heavy duty engine cooling system, power steering. It looks like the original owner ordered it with undercoating and hood insulation as well. The tires on this car are in excellent condition with probably 80% of the tread life still there. This car had 108,331 miles on it when I received it on 9/13/2009 and currently has 109,040. It has been driven on five 120 mile round trips and a few miles around town running perfectly with no issues whatsoever. The car runs like a dream. I climbed under the car and poked around very aggressively with a sharp ice pick like object. The floorboards are solid. The trunk has some light surface rust but is not rusted through. When underneath the car there is an area near the drivers side door where it appears that someone drove over a curb and dented the area underneath a little but nothing serious. It looks like the gas tank has been soldered in the past but they must have done a great job because there are no signs of leaking whatsoever. See photos. The drivers side door lock cannot be opened from the outside and needs to be repaired or replaced. I have not removed the door panels to investigate this. It locks fine from the inside. You are probably wondering why I'm selling this car after owning it less than a year. I had every intention of doing a full restoration on this car but 3 months after buying it a car collector friend of mine tells me he has a '73 AMX with a 401 4-Spd in storage and did not know I liked Javelins. So of course I go to see this car and decide to buy it too. After much consideration I've decided to keep the AMX and sell this one because I just do not have the time nor room for two project cars and I live in a development with a Homeowners Association that frowns on a bunch of cars in the driveway. So there you have it. If you are local you are welcome to make an appointment and come and drive this car. You'll fall in love with it!
