Vehicle Detail
This VW Rabbit was converted into an electric vehicle by Electo Automotive in California (http://www.electroauto.com). Electo Automotive has been selling electric vehicle conversions since 1979, and has a reputation for selling one of the best conversion kits you can buy. The odometer in the car was reset to 0 when the conversion was done, so actual miles on the vehicle is unknown. This car was originally a VW Rabbit diesel Pickup. It now has a 120 volt DC system which uses 20 - six volt US Battery US145XC batteries. The batteries were purchased new last summer. This car will drive for 60-80 miles on a charge if you are driving in fairly level terrain (range is dependent on speed and hills). I live in a very hilly section of New Hampshire, and am able to drive it for 45 miles. When I go shopping in this car, I drive 15 miles to the local supermarket (30 mile round trip) at 50 MPH, and return with a 40% charge. This car is in excellent running condition, and has been garaged. It has a 220 Volt Zivan NG3 Charger, which brings the battery pack to a full charge in about 6 hours. I have a Xantrex Link 10 battery monitoring gauge installed, which allows you to monitor battery usage either by KW used, or via a percentage of available charge (it acts as a gas gauge). The car has a 128/12 Volt DC to DC converter, which runs all of the 12 volt stuff. It uses a Curtis 1221 controller, which has a max voltage of 120 volts, so if you want to increase the battery pack, you would need to upgrade the controller. The brakes run off of a 12 volt vacuum pump. The car does not have regenerative brakes. I just replaced the front tires, the rear tires are in good condition. I purchased this car with dead batteries in California a year ago. The car has no rust, and the body is in excellent condition. I'm selling the car as is, but it is currently registered, and should pass inspection with no issues. I bought this car hoping to use it to commute to my work, which is 55 miles away. Because of my range requirements, I bought the best conversion, and the best batteries I could find. Unfortunately I came up about ten miles short for my commute. I've been using the Rabbit for local shopping trips several time a week (so it has been used). The Electo Auto kit for the car (without the batteries) costs over $10,000, the batteries cost around $3,000, so this is an excellent value for someone who wants to start driving green. There are a few cosmetic things that I have not gotten around to fixing. The roof of the cab needs to be wallpapered or carpeted. The radio is a little too long for the space in the dash, so I left it extended out of the dash by an inch (it works fine). The passenger door latch works from the inside, but not from the outside. Please let me know if you have any questions.
