Vehicle Detail
1968 Dodge Dart GTS Convertible Tribute 2 Year Restoration just completed – This car was originally a very clean, straight 1968 Dart GT 318 4-Speed Convertible with power disc brakes, power steering and power convertible top. This is an AZ car with original body panels including the original trunk pan. Less than 50 318 4-speed GT convertibles were built in 1968, making this a rare car. As you can see the car has been correctly transformed into a Tribute 1968 GTS 340 4-speed Convertible. This was a complete 2 year restoration. I included a complete list of the major parts and material used during the 2 year restoration process. The body and paint are very nice and straight. I will post more pics tomorrow including pics of the underside of the car Body/ Paint/Trim Rust free AZ car with all original body panels, inner fenders, floor pan and trunk pan. The car was originally Green with Green interior. A complete color change was done to correct 1968 Dodge Bright Red (base coat/clear coat). As you can see in the pics this was done correctly including the entire floor pan, trunk pan etc. You will not find any traces of the original Green paint on this car. The bumpers and tail light bezels have been re-chromed. The stainless steel trim was polished. The door handles and outside mirror are new. All the rubber seals, gaskets, window felts, emblems etc were replaced during the restoration as well as the convertible top, boot and power top hoses and cylinders. There is one piece of convertible trim missing on the car (see close-up pic). It is the small driver’s side transition molding. Layson’s has stocked this molding in the past, but they are currently out of stock. Mechanical This car runs and drives great. It goes down the road straight and stops straight as expected. You can feel confident that you can get in this car and drive it anywhere in the country. A recently rebuilt 1971 340 (steel crank) was installed in the car with the correct 68 340 HP manifolds. The engine runs perfectly. The fuel tank, fuel lines and fuel pump are also new. The transmission shifts and works perfectly. The 8 ¾ rear end has 323 gears which is a good ratio for this car with a 4-speed. The car has power disc brakes and power steering. The TTI exhaust is completely new including the tips. The car sounds great. The wheels are 14” with new BF Goodrich T/A Radials and Dodge “Dog Dish” hub caps (I have A-body Rallye wheels if the buyer is interested). Almost everything under the hood is new including, water pump, alternator, starter, hoses, belts, plugs, plug wires, battery washer bottle, squirters etc. Everything on the car works; horn, lights, wipers, heater, radio, power top, gauges etc. The car also runs nice and cool even in the 100 + AZ heat. Interior The interior has new seat covers, seat foam, door panels and carpet. This instrument panel was restored using “white gauge” decals. This looks very nice with the new white shifter ball. The well liner and convertible top and top boot are new as well. You will notice the car even has the very hard to find correct GTS door panel emblems. Parts List – As you can see below there is over $15K invested in Parts and Material. There is a big variation in the level of restorations you will see when looking at cars for sale on the Internet. I want the buyer to know exactly what he/she is buying. Some people put a shinny paint job and new tires on a car and call it restored. This is not the case with this car. As you can see below all the parts and material add up quickly when doing a restoration correctly? There were no corners cut when restoring this car. This is not an OE Gold 100 point concours restoration, however it is a very high quality show/driver restoration.
