Vehicle Detail

1968 Buick Riviera VIN# 494878H927907 Mileage: 93,851 Purchased for $9400, I stuck $8k of my own money into it and now it absolutely has to go - this is (hopefully) the final time it will be listed. So you're in luck - this is the auction you've been looking for. A guy who put more way more money into a car than he'll get out of it. Take advantage and score a $23k car (book value) for a lot less than that. Hell, you'll get it for less that what I have put into it in under a year! A little about the Riviera: A significant change for 1967-68 was the adoption of Buick's entirely new 430 V8 engine, with 360 horsepower and 475 lb·ft (644 N·m) of torque. The new engine, with greater power and torque on hand, represented a significant performance improvement for the Riviera. Inside, the four-place cabin features optionally available Strato bucket seats with a full-length operating console with a "horseshoe" shaped floor shifter and storage compartment. Gasoline mileage improved slightly with the new engine, though it remained gas-thirsty compared to modern cars. Cosmetically, 1968 models had reshaped front and rear loop-type bumpers that encased the vehicle's (recessed crosshatch) grille and tail lamps, respectively. Hidden wiper arms were also new. Federally-mandated side marker lights were of an inverted trapezoidal shape on the lower leading edges of the front fenders. Rear marker lights were circular. What made this car a head-turner for me is that most of the trim has been shaved off - it has a nice, clean, streamlined look to it. Montana title is free and clear. Car carries a high NADA book value of $24,300. This is a true classic and a good investment car - well cared for and it has got all the right things in the right places. It's in gorgeous shape, it is white-glove clean and you can pick it up and drive it all the way home if you'd like. A perfect cruiser, and an unbelievable head-turner because there doesn't seem to be a lot of sweet looking Rivieras around. I will miss this car, but I know it'll be going to an appreciative home. I've bought and sold cars on Ebay a few times, and what I found most annoying about purchases is that sellers tend to leave out certain basic information and always made the car sound perfect. All classics have issues here and there, and I'm going to address them below. Feel free to email me if you would like to talk about the car. If you are close to Montana and would like to look at it in person, that is no problem - just let me know. BASIC STUFF Windshield wipers work properly, sprayers do not work. Dash lights work, dash clock does not work Turn signals all work correctly Horn works correctly Brake lights all work correctly Heater AND defroster work correctly (and work well!) Hideaway headlights work correctly, however, the passenger side light will stay down if you do not retract the headlights while in gear. Not sure why, but other than that - it works properly. Seat belts work properly. Front lighter works, rear lighter does not work. Rear sail panel lights work properly when the doors are opened (new lenses as well), under dash lights work properly when doors are opened All windows roll down properly and include all hardware. There are no cracks in the windshield or windows. There are no cracks in the dash. There are no tears, rips or frays in the front seats or back seats The interior is a newer restoration and has no tears. Original documents, including owners manual, accessories brochure, owner protection plan and Protecto Plate documents for when the car was sold NEW at Wallace Buick Company in Portland, OR Radio illuminates but does not play music - I had it disconnected when the custom stereo was installed, but wanted to keep it so I could light it up at night. INTERIOR Interior looks as if had been re-done within the past 5 years, and it was done correctly. One minor flaw is the carpet on the passenger side was cut a bit short and has a minor fray about 1" long. Original door panels, rear panels, etc. Seats have been done in black cloth with silver piping, cushions are still firm, seats adjust properly. The wood on the console has some warping, but looks great when Pledged. The front compartment opens properly, the rear compartment sits flush and also opens, but the lock is broke, so you have to push on it to open it. Shifter works as it should, and it illuminates. One minor poke hole in the headliner, other than that - fine. Visors work and stay up, but the rubber ends are missing, but does not affect functionality. Glove box opens up. Ashtray slides out smoothly. EXTERIOR The paint is shiny, no oxidation. The paint is Buick Silver Mist, but it's a newer paintjob and there are two issues that I have photographed near the passenger door and the passenger rear quarter. Paint is subjective - it's a great, shiny paintjob that looks beautiful when washed, but I'm not going to claim that it's a Chip Foose paintjob, either. The previous owner who painted it didn't remove the trim and it has been hit by the DA in a lot of places, but it's seldom noticed - but worth stating. Bumpers are great, no large dings or major scratches - they shine well when polished. To me it looks as if the rear bumper has been rechromed at some point. UNDERCARRIAGE This car is SPOTLESS underneath and has no rust issues. It was a big factor in purchasing the car in the first place, and it's probably the cleanest car I've ever owned. I had it on the rack about 5 months ago and cleaned nearly all of the grime off of it (the car was rarely driven in the rain/snow-it was garaged all winter) and I gave it a good inspection. OTHER REPLACEMENTS New master cylinder 15x8 aftermarket Buick rally rims for the rear (stock 7" rims in front) Gas tank removed and repaired with new fuel lines (welded) 5/16" wheel spacers in front (to widen tire appearance in wheel well) Flywheel cover replaced (in picture it's missing) NEW ENGINE Engine rebuilt 500 miles ago - receipts, warranty, build information all included. Engine was rebuilt by Automotive Machine in Great Falls, Montana and has a very good reputation in the region for quality work ranging from stock to high performance. I have had 3 other engines rebuilt there, and they have always been of excellent quality and performance. The engine sports a brand new Edelbrock 1406 carb, Edelbrock intake, new plugs, new points, rotor, water pump, fuel pump and mild Comp Cam. The car is surprisingly quick from 1200-3000 rpm. The total price for the rebuild was $4200. NEW FRONT END Front end work performed: shocks, new idler arm, lower ball joints, strut rod bushings installed, sway bar kit rebuild and alignment. The total price for the front end work performed was $1200, this also includes a receipt for the work. The car handles beautifully and steering is nice and tight - it hits bumps and DOES NOT rattle and sound like it's coming apart (like stock!). NEW CUSTOM STEREO AND TRUNK FABRICATION Stereo installation was performed with the main objective being that it remained "hidden" so it did not interfere with the vintage look of the interior. Installed in the front part of the console is a Secret Audio unit that was wired for an iPod (hooked into the cable in the rear console compartment). It also plays AM/FM. The Secret Audio unit can also be configured for Sirius radio, an in-dash stereo unit, or CD changer - it's incredibly versatile and a very popular choice for custom hot rod applications. More information can be found about it at: http://www.soundmove.com/secretaudio.htm There are speakers located in the front kick panels, in the back seat grill and a subwoofer enclosure in the trunk. a big Rockford Fosgate amp powers the system. The trunk has been completely carpeted with a very cool embossed Riviera logo on the trunk lid. Two small cubbys in the walls for your detailing products. Spare tire compartment is fully functional. The total price for the custom installation was $2000. PAYMENT $500 deposit due within 24 hours of auction close via Paypal. Full payment due or transferred within 5 business days. Payable by bank wire/transfer or personal check (subject to clearing). Title is free and clear. If you would like the notarized title and bill of sale FedEx'd to you, please add $20 (for next day) to the total cost, otherwise, I'll stick it in the car when the transport (or you) come to pick it up. Car is located in Great Falls, Montana (Zip code 59401). I can store the car for up to two weeks after the sale and can meet your transport anywhere in town for loading.
