Up for auction today is this 1977 VW bug that i purchased for a project but dont have the time to finish.Before i start let me clarify the above stated mileage of 4438,this is what the odometer reads but im possitive that it has turned over atleast once.This bug is perfect for a restoration project,the rust is minimal and the car is structrually sound but still needs alot of work to bring her to her previous glory.The car does run and drive and transmission and clutch all work but i wouldnt consider this vehicle road worthy at this time,and would highly reccomend having it towed home!! I purchased this from a contractor who got took it in partial trade for some work he had done for the owner.I was told that it had been in a barn for the past 10 years,and for what it took to get it started i believe it.The title is clear and open and is still in the previous owners name.The motor doesnt burn or leak oil and has what looks like a brand new starter.The motor at idle does have a skip in # 1 cylinder but goes away just above idle.The skip is probably due to a dirty injector but i havent done any test to confirm this.Worst case scenerio would be a sticking valve but again i havent done any test to confirm this.The clutch must be just about new because there is still full adjustment left on the cable.The tires are Kelly all season metric radials that appear to be almost brand new,still have some of the little tittys in the tred area.The tires have no dry rot or cracks and are very plyable which is pretty amazing for being on the car in a barn for 10 years.Emergency brakes work just fine but the hydraulic brakes brakes barely stop the car.The shoes and pads are ok but the system needs to be bleed and the master is leaking.The charging system works fine and believe it or not even the battery that was in it still holds a charge (amazing).Heater boxes are still intact and yes even the heater controls work.The dash heater fan switch is broken so fan condition is unknown.The defroster ducts are missing,they were probably dinner for some barn mice.There is a spare tire but i havent put any air in it to verify if it any good or not.The bottom of the spare tire area is the worst rust on the car,badly rusted but a pretty simple fix(see picture)Running boards are there but are pretty rough and would need to be replaced.The floor pan on the passenger side needs some work but in my opinion is repairable without replacing pan half.The driver side pan is in decent shape with only one small hole near rear corner.Front shock towers and axle tubes are in good condition.Bottom of both doors are in good condition,missing paint and both have rust but no visible holes.There were large dents on the top of the trunk lid (boot or hood) and the roof,the kind that children can make when they jump up on a car in the barn.Anyways i popped out the ones on the trunk lid by just hitting them from the bottom with my fist but of course there is still some body work needed to remove the perimeter creases.The large dent on roof will be a little more difficult to remove since its a double panel to allow for the sunroof to slide into it.Speaking about the sunroof,it does still open until it reaches the dent in the roof.The door windows are in good condition and do still roll up and down but are tight,tracks will need cleaning and mechanism will need lubing.The rear window has an electric defroster but i havent checked to see it it works or not.Sadly the windshield has a crack on the passenger side and will need to be replaced.The interior is in good shape considering the age of the car.The driver seat is missing the back release button knob but seat does still work.There are no noticeable rips or tares in any of the seats.All of the original carpet is still there but is dirty.The passenger side carpet has some dried mold on it in the foot area.The driver side door panel will need to be replaced as will driver side door pull handel.Passenger side door panel is in good shape.Dash panel is in good shape.Radio is missing.All dash lights,headlights (high and low beams),brake lights,turn signals and 4 way emergency flashers all work.The horn does not work.The wipers dont work but when you move the wiper switch you can hear the wiper motor run at different speeds but the arms dont move.The trunk release lever in the glove box works but it is broken loose from the glove box.Gas gauge appears to work but i only put a couple of gallons in it so its a little hard to be sure.Back to the interior,The headliner has a hole near the passenger side front corner and the inside panel for the sunroof is missing.There is also an exhaust leak but nothing to serious and muffler is in good shape.The side view mirror is missing the glass but the metal in in great condition.The bumpers are in fair condition with some minor surface rust and minor dings and dents.The original owners manual is included and is in fair condition.
