Vehicle Detail
We bought this car in 1997, exactly a year after it left the factory. Since that time, we have put 158,000 miles on it without it being in the shop for anything other than a couple of recall items and having the timing belt changed every 65k miles. The car has been incredibly reliable as a daily driver, and the only reason to get rid of it is because the automatic transmission gave out. I thought of getting a rebuilt transmission and fixing it, but I don't have the time any more. The oil has been changed every 3000-4000 miles, and I've never had a problem with it burning any oil. The tires are in good shape, with the fronts having about 40% tread life, and the rears having about 85% tread life. The car consistently operated at 28-29MPG, and was great in snow and ice. The 4-cylinder has plenty of power to bust through the snow. The car has a couple of surface rust spots around the wheel wells, and on the passenger side, the lower rocker panel has rusted through in about a 4" diameter spot. The passenger doors are dented in from being sideswiped by another vehicle in the driveway, and the rear bumper shows some scuff marks from other cars brushing too close. The interior is in good condition, with the driver's seat showing the most wear, as it is getting thin and showing the foam in a few spots. The rear center seat belt does not work. The rear driver's side window does not work and the front passenger's side window goes down a little, but needs manual help to go back up. There is no radio--I pulled the aftermarket radio for another vehicle. The speakers are still in the car. As in almost all Contours, the cupholders are long gone due to a poor design. The airbags are intact. The car will need to be towed or hauled on a trailer. It is available for pickup only. 50% deposit via PayPal or other pre-arranged method between seller and buyer within 48 hours of auction close. I can store it for up to 2 weeks after the sale.
