1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL, Z-code This ‘64, 2 door hardtop was originally sold from the Ford Dealership in Whitefish, MT on 5-19-64. I purchased it from that original owner on 6-13-08 . This is a fine example of an unmolested original. It has a 390, automatic, Z code (which means it’s a 390 V8 with a factory 4 barrel), with NO RUST. Be sure to take a look at the pictures of the floorboards and quarter panels. The sale includes the original purchase order where it states the sale price was $3,836.00 and they received $516.00 for a ‘55 Ford 2 door as a trade in. Notice that the car was ordered without exterior mirrors and they were never added. Also included are the original owner’s manual, a Ford registered owner ID card, dealer pre-delivery ID slip and the punch card used as it went down the assembly line, and I even still have the ORIGINAL KEY TAG. The car still supports the original paint. I understand that Ford was trying to boost sales in ‘64 by introducing a number of different colors. They called it “the Special Spring Hardtop promotion.” This is in fact, one of those cars. The actual color of this car is “Salmon Coral”. The body is very straight with exception of a crease in both quarter panels (see pictures). The paint still holds a real nice shine, but there is a chip and ding here and there. The ONLY evidence of any body work is that the right door has faded a little differently than the rest of the car, so it was repainted at some time. The chrome and stainless trim are in amazing condition. However, the stainless on both rocker panels have been scraped. The hub caps are in good shape and the tires show little signs of wear. All glass is perfect with the exception of a chip in the middle of the windshield. Three of the four headlamps still say FOMOCO. The dash pad has no cracks or fading. The rear seat needs a good cleaning, but does not need to be replaced. The front seats and carpet, however, do need some attention. The door panels are near perfect, but the drivers arm rest is rough. The car came without air conditioning, but included in the sale is a complete used air conditioner system which is the correct one for this car. The car had been setting in dry storage for over 15 years when I purchased it. I had the original gas tank boiled out, put a carb kit in and it runs like new. I did notice, today, that the accelerator pump on the carb is leaking. The brakes work “good” and the car goes down the road trough all the gears smoothly. The power steering works, but has a leak at the pump. Please see my feedback. I try really hard to give a great description of everything I sell. The car is not perfect, but is one of the finest examples of an original, unmolested, 45 year old car I have seen.
