Vehicle Detail
This Diamond Silver Metallic (L97A)/Black Leatherette VW was purchased new at Howard Hambrough VW in Springfield, Il. by a mister Jonas E. Rose to add to his prized collection of exotic European automobiles. He favored German (especially Mercedes) hence, the silver, their signature color. The car was immediately parked in his heated/climate controlled garage where it spent more time than on the road. As it turned out, Jonas soon discovered the Beetle was not quite in the same class as his Mercedes (and Rolls) and was quite uncomfortable, as he was already elderly. So the car was very sparingly driven, just enough to maintain it's reliability. This story was told to me by a close friend of Jonas' because Jonas died at the age of 89. When Jonas purchased the Beetle from the showroom floor, he had the Dealer install fog lights, a Grundig radio and added a shift tunnel console. Any and all maintentance work was performed by the Dealer. After Jonas' passing, his Estate donated the car to a local trade school, where his close friend taught. This is the gentleman I dealt with and he relayed his stories to me. I puchased the car from that school and all paperwork and Title came from the Director of that school. Also included with the sale are: Original Owner's Manual, some old registration cards, a Dealer's specification handout with a great picture of a Silver '79 on the front, signed affidavit from the school attesting to the mileage and Authentication papers from the Stiftung Automobile Museum in Wolfsburg, Germany which verifies serial #, motor #, color, destination and interior. The following items are original as delivered: All 5 Continental Radial tires showing plenty of tread and no cracking (probably still has German air in them), 5 date coded rims, all original glass including windshield & rear window, original horn for that distinctive sound, original jack, handle, tool kit, still in it's plastic bag held together with the original black rubber band, original top, headliner and insulation pad, all rubber weatherstripng, visors, dated seat belts ,dash pad, leatherette seats, rugs & mats, foot pedal rubbers, battery cable/terminals,voltage regulator, altenator, coil, trunk cardboards, unused ashtray, running boards, bumpers, and on and on. You get the idea. The front ID plate under the trunk lid shows the cars birthday as Nov. 20, 1979. The vin decal & emissions decal are in place on the left door jamb, the glove box tire pressure decal is there as are the paint code and washer pressure under the trunk along with the gas decal inside the fill door. There is evidence of some very old pin stripe tape having been removed from the body. You need to look close to see it. There is slight paint discoloration at the bottom of the gas fill area (hence the new gas cap) and some minor paint touch up. I have pictures of most areas if needed. These are only mentioned for clarity because this car shows very well and has a deep shine. All the crazy little items still work like the clock, key buzzer, interior light, door locks (original key), turn signal cancel, windshield washers, back up lights and even the tiny light on the dash that iluminates the heater controls on the floor. As far as I can tell, the only items replaced were the fuel pump & filter, battery, gas cap, maybe a tune up (German parts), and possibly the wiper blades (although they are Bosch). If you've read this far then your probably at least "fairly" interested so this paragraph is for you. I've owned many low mileage classic cars for the last 45 years, including 4 very low mileage Beetles and this is by FAR the most quiet, most responsive, best handling, smoothest shifting, most comfortable of any I've owned or driven. You must drive this car to fully appreciate it. The overall performance is just as you would expect from a 10,000 mile car. If you've looked at VW's in the past, you know the issues with rust, cold starts, hard shifting, faulty fuel injection, poor acceleration, inadequate heaters, faulty electricals, etc. None of those problems are associated with this car! Period! Please make an effort to see & drive this car, or have someone check it for you. But do so before the Auction ends, I'm retired so I have a pretty open schedule. Just email me. If you would like to speak with me, give me your phone # and I'll call. This is a legitimate and rock solid investment automobile. Hard to lose money when they are like this and it sure beats watching a bumpy stock portfolio. Plus it's fun (try taking your 401K for a ride on a sunny day...) NO ZERO OR NEGATIVE BIDDERS PLEASE. If your feedback is very low, contact me first. I take this auction very seriously and expect you to do the same. Your $500 deposit is non refundable. I expect you to finish the transaction if you win. Make sure your finances are in order and the "Boss" approves. Please don't ask my reserve as it will remain confidential. Payment may be in the form of cash, check or wire transfer but the car and Title will not be released until all funds have cleared my Bank. P.S. The "D" on the back of the car stands for Deutschland which is the Federal Republic of Germany. Many years ago, owner's were required to show their Country of origin on their autos. My wife's first name begins with "D", so the letter remained. Good luck bidding! On Jun-08-10 at 18:19:25 PDT, seller added the following information: To answer the questions about the "scratch" in the passenger door, that is simply a relection from the bottom of my garage door where the sun is hitting.
