Vehicle Detail

1963 Corvair, Convertible This is a nice driver quality vehicle. I would not consider it to be a show car though it could win at local car shows. I am not a car show person, instead preferring to drive my old cars on tours or cruise-ins. I try to keep all of my old cars road worthy because I take them on frequent week-end tours with friends in my car clubs. The reason I'm selling it is because I got it for my wife to drive, since we've had four of them in the past and she always liked Corvairs because they are so easy to handle. However, this one does not have a power top and my wife has some difficulty putting the top up by herself. I have other cars which I usually drive and do not need this one if she isn't going to drive it very often; besides I'm running out of garage space. Here are some of the things that I've done to the car since owning it. 1. Recovered both front seats with NORS covers from Clark's Corvairs 2. Replaced oil pan gasket 3. Replaced O-Ring gaskets on push rod tubes 4. Replaced valve cover gaskets & added bottom bolt between the existing two which stops that notorious oil leak 5. Tuned up engine with new spark plugs and breaker points. 6. Replaced the biased belted tires with radial tires/balanced 7. Replaced original exhaust system with dual exhaust system (Trombone style pipes & mufflers) Here are a few things which I think should be done to the vehicle. I purchased a replacement battery box that I haven't installed yet. I have replacement vent window rubber that has not been installed. I have some fasteners for the door panels that I probably won't fix before the car is sold. There is a little paint bubble at the bottom of the front fender that could use some attention. These things are hardly noticeable but I prefer not to withhold or hide and items from a prospective buyer so they know exactly what they are getting. The top on the vehicle is not new and although it's not the best looking, it does not leak. It has been said that pictures do not lie but I think on Ebay, you cannot always tell the condition of a car as if you were to see it in person. I think such is the case with my Corvair because the paint is a little old, probably a repaint. Therefore, it has some chips, nicks, and scratches with some fading or thin paint in a few spots. If you are near enough to central Indiana, I would encourage you to come and see the car for yourself. Just send a message via the "Ask Seller a Question" option and I will be happy to set up a date and time for you. Note: This is a 4-speed manual shift transmission. You could drive the car home a reasonable distance but I would not recommend having to travel 3 or 4 states away due to the age of the vehicle. On May-28-10 at 13:00:30 PDT, seller added the following information: I have added pictures per requests from 3 watchers/bidders. These show the condition of the top, luggage compartment, and paint damage on the lower, right front fender. You can see that the tip is not split or torn but has some discoloration and the rear window is somewhat cloudy. However, the top doesn't leak.
