Vehicle Detail

This bug is a blast to drive. We’ve made lots of trips on the winding roads of the Arkansas Ozarks. It handles great and with the new engine it’s not short on power going up the hills. It has a just right lowered stance, not slammed to the ground but not a regular bug either. And it gets 30 mpg with the dual Weber’s. As you may know ’67 is one of the most desirable years for the VW Beetle. First year for 12 volt but still has the older style bumpers, seats, non-padded dash and one-year-only retractable seatbelts. Everything works on this car (Except the emergency flashers, the 9-pin relay box is obsolete and difficult to find. Turn signals work fine). Features: · Professionally built 1914cc engine, new AE case · Pro-built Freeway Flyer swing-axle transmission · Dual Weber 34 ICT’s · Petronix points-free ignition, 009 distributor, Bosche blue coil · Adjustable front beam · Partially de-chromed · MP3 CD player w AUX input for your iPod/iPhone & overhead tweeters · VDO Kienzle clock · ’67 only seat belts & center hook · New KYB shocks in front, Gas-A-Just shocks in rear · No rust (except a quarter-sized hole under the battery, battery is now in a box) · Paint is “Root Beer Purple”, looks like black except when well lit · Porsche 356 hub caps · Aluminum running boards · '67 only Back-up lights · Grant steering wheel · Stainless steel valves, high-rev springs, full flow oil, straight-cut gears · Pop-out rear windows included · Custom Flowmaster™ exhaust (exits in front of right rear wheel), sounds like a Porsche! Blows the ricer’s fat exhaust sound away. If you are a high bidder and the sound is important to you I will record it and e-mail you an MP3. I purchased this '67 California Beetle in 2005 from Chequred Flag Intl www.chequeredflag.com in Marina Del Rey. I understand they received it as a trade-in from a California man who purchased it from the original owner in 1986, so I’m sorta the third driver/owner. It has been my daily driver for 5 years. I’ve invested over $10k that I realize will not be recouped but I’ve enjoyed the hobby and being part of the VW scene. Last year I spent $4500 on just the new engine & transaxle. It has a new case 1914cc (1.9L) from Brothers VW in Ontario, CA, a rebuilt Freeway Flyer transaxle from The Wright Gearbox in Riverside, CA, and dual Weber 34 ICT carbs rebuilt by ACE (Air Cooled Engineering) in Salt Lake City. Current engine/trans setup has 8,000 miles on it. Just enough for break in and smooth running. http://www.wrightgearbox.com http://www.brothersvwmachineshop.com http://www.aircooledengineering.com Cons: There are a few stars on the front bonnet and a zag in the left rear fender (see pics). Scratch on the rear glass & front tires need to be replaced soon. Right front fender now has a dent not shown when I took the original pictures. Some nice person in the parking lot backed over my fender and pulled Zippy halfway out of her parking space but ‘forgot’ to leave me a note! :-( To be show quality again it needs some body work, new paint and carpet. It has won 2nd place at a local VW show before the current dings. Bonus: I will throw in a new pair of Mini Cooper bullet mirrors or a $50 credit to purchase them on e-bay, whichever the winner prefers. Bonus: If auction goes over $4k I will also include a nice Thermador Swamp cooler ($300+), painted re-pop luggage rack ($150+), and vintage drive-in window tray for the shows. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This bug isn’t mint. It is 42 years old and has the typical maintenance and upkeep issues of an antique car. However, it does turn heads and gets a lot of pointing, peace signs, and compliments. It’s great fun to see folks slugging the socks off each other when they see you. On a purchase of this magnitude I advise viewing before you buy. I can show the car any time to serious bidders. E-mail for an appointment. I can also pick you up from the LR airport if you want to drive it home. Why am I selling? I love driving the bug but I’m now on disability. I can’t afford to keep and maintain two antique vehicles or the inconvenience when they break down. I’ll have to resort to a Toyota. :-) I may consider a trade for a decent 4 door or extended cab T100 or Tacoma. Or maybe even a 2000 or later Dodge Dakota in good condition with lower miles. I like that bright Dodge & Toyota blue and I now have a 13' Scamp trailer to tow! $500 deposit due within 48 hours of auction close. Remainder due within 7 days. Payment via money order, cashiers check, or cash (in person). Shipping or pickup is the responsibility of the buyer but I will be glad to help where I can. I reserve the right to end auction early as vehicle is for sale locally and other online, but please don’t ask to bypass e-bay if you haven’t already seen it for sale locally or at a VW show, in which case you should have my phone number. This is it. Paying high bidder takes the car. Good Luck!
