Its common knowledge in the BMW motorcycling community that these engines are not done fully "breaking in" until somewhere around 30 or 40,000 miles. Performance continues to improve over time until they reach this mileage. Because these engines are built to such tight tolerances, it is not uncommon to see them at the annual BMW rallies with 200,000 or 300,000 miles on them,....and still being ridden on a daily basis.
