1967 'Hometown Vert' Welcome Back ANOTHER SUPER SOLID VOLKSWAGEN BROUGHT TO YOU BY THEBARNFIND.COM This hometown 1967 vert was born and raised here in our hometown, Sacramento, Ca.. The story starts out on the 31st day of August in 1967 when Stephen M Holman went down to Wes Lasher Volkswagen at 5800 Florin road right here in my home town in the 916 and drove away that day in a brand spanking new yukon yellow 1967 convertible...that still to this day sports the original dealer license plate frame and front and rear O.G. black plates!! As the history goes per the o.g instruction and maintenance card at the back of the owners manaul, Stephen never missed a service starting with his 300 mile at 450 a few weeks later on Sept 16, 1967 then onto his 3000 mile on nov 16 67 were he dove it with 5170 miles in his brand new vdub.. then onto his 6000,9000,12000,24000.. well I think you get the point. The next traceable facts are many valve adjustments and tune ups that included the removal of the og battery done by K Mart on Stockton Blvd on 5-09-1981... Ten years later the vert finds itself at B&C air cooled motors at 4743 Auburn Blvd Sacramento, Ca. where they quoted him $339.00 to rebuild the motor provided the heads and case were good- at this point the motor was at 62,000 miles and was in need of new heads but B&C was able to use the original case witch still sits in the vert to this very day! (numbers matching to the o.g maintenance card) they were out the door for only $507.74 for a rebuilt motor. This brings us to how the vert landed in our hands... Stephen was living with his (vw hating) romemate when he died in 1989 and left his roommate stuck paying the rent and utilities... as the story goes the roomate " ACQUIRED " the vert for the money owed.. at this point Gaberiel (whom I got the vert from) heard of the death and that the vert was up for grabs to pay off Stephens debt! Gaberiel stepped up his game and purchased the hometown vert (price unknown, sure I could find out) he stated that he drove it down the street and told himself that he was going to do the brakes in his garage... so he pulled it in, and there it sat until just recently when we brought it back to the shop to be "resurrected" and put back on the streets of its "hometown", right here in the 916. You may ask yourself how I found it? I was driving back from the tool store when I saw a garage door open and under piles an piles of things, I saw the a vert deck lid and a vert top... . I flipped around so fast and went right up to the door... I tried so hard to get Gaberiel to sell me the vert but he wasnt havn' it... hehe... we all know how that goes (more then once). So, one year later I stopped by again.. this time I got him thinking about it but still no dice! However he did take my number this time... almost a year later outta the blue he called me and said he is tired of never being able to open his garage without people flooding his house trying to get him to sell it..so he said, Jason.... I like you and I if anyone gets this car I think it should be you... I was shocked and so excited at the same time! So the deal was made and the 916 vert was mine!!!! current mileage: 80,881 "THE ENGINE" 1967 "H" case 1600 dual port NEW PARTS LIST spark plugs and spark plug wires cap, points, rotor, and condenser intake boots carb rebuild kit and base gasket intake manifold gaskets oil cooler gasket push rod tunes and seals exhaust gaskets oil stand gasket fuel pump gasket dist gasket fan belt wire connections MOTOR INFORMATION The motor is the original "H" case motor that came in the car from the factory. it was removed and rebuilt at 62,000 (upgraded to a dual port at this time) and was driven up to about 80,000 then parked... when the vert came into the hands of The Resurrection Project we removed the motor and installed new push rod tubes and seals then retorque the heads and adjusted the valves. The removal also included a full top end re-seal and a complete tune up, along with new fuel line. The motor is VERY strong and doesn’t miss a beat! ONLY the two front fenders have been completely re sprayed. The pass side front quarter panel is the only spot on the car where there has been slight collision damage that has been nicely repaired and has primer and color match paint. The rest of the car is in very good untouched condition. Both rear portions of the pans at the battery and the driver side have been professionally replaced with the correct replacement metal! The doors, hood and deck lid are O.G. to the car and fit very well. The windows all roll up and down nicely, however the pass front glass was recently broken but comes with an original replacement. There is absolutely no clip replacement anywhere on the body! One of the few cons to the vert is a minor rust issue at the inner pass fender well that would be a easy fix for a technician or even a hobbyist. For an additional cost the repair can be performed at The Resurrection Project. The top frame is bare and the top and components will need to be replaced. The heater channels and support rails are in great dry and solid state (rare for a vert not to need heater channel or support rail work or replacement.) The bumpers are true O.G. 67 bumpers and are in excellent shape and have GT bumper bars attached. The overall look and condition of the body and accessories is VERY nice on this vert, and i truly think the pics speak for themselves on this subject!
