***RESERVE REMOVED*** ***BUY IT NOW FOR $18,900*** (Please note that the Van is for sale locally as well as on Ebay - I therefore reserve the right to end the auction early as local interest for the van has proven more than I ever imagined or expected!) The first thing people notice about this Vanagon is it's Clearcoat shine - it was repainted Jet Black just last summer at a cost of $5,000! Of course, at 20 years old, the van came to me with some nicks and scrapes and a very, very small amount of the characteristic rust between the body seams (above the driver's side wheel well and below the door) - but they're all gone now - sandblasted and smoothed away by a local auto body craftsman who did a very nice job. I've never owned an automobile that received more compliments - and I've owned some pretty nice cars! But the thing most people don't even notice about this Vanagon is how extremely quiet it is - thanks to the 2006 2.5L Subaru power plant that replaces the old, leaky Waterboxer the van had until just last year. From the front seats people can't even hear the engine at idle - it's that quiet! Of course, step on the accelerator and you'll hear a more familiar tone - the rhythm of the horizontally opposed boxer style engine - so it SOUNDS like a Vanagon should - it just behaves better! Better acceleration, better fuel economy, better dependability and far, far better reliability than the old Waterboxer the van came with. Prior to the conversion, I'd hesitate to take the van anywhere but short distances. Now I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across country - seriously! The conversion was done entirely by Vanaru (check them out at vanaru.com) and Hans (the owner of Vanaru) is a very, very decent and knowledgeable guy - and I'm here to tell you he does great work. There are things that still don't work on this Vanagon - and if they annoy you enough, you can fix them. The cruise control doesn't work. The tachometer doesn't work. The central locking system doesn't work. The A/C only works on it's highest setting (but when it's on, it really really works well!). Some of the instrument lights - like the heater lights - work intermittently. Everything else works just fine! There's a lot new (or newer) or replaced on this Vanagon: Brand new fuse-box. Brand new heater core. Brand new brakes. Brand new brake lines to the front wheels. Newer tires. Newer, larger starter motor. Brand new stainless steel muffler. Brand new front-end 'bra'. Brand new hitch receiver. The van also comes with two extra rims mounted with snow tires and the original Vanagon floormats and the two original keys! I don't REALLY want to sell this van - but I do need to get rid of some toys and the van fits into that category for me. This van has been used as a daily driver by me - and like I said before, I wouldn't hesitate to take it long, long distances. It's fun to drive, it gets tons of compliments and attention and its supremely reliable now. If you're interested, or have further questions, don't hesitate to ask me here on Ebay. Thanks, and good luck! I will assist the buyer in whatever way possible - just contact me to discuss your needs.
