Vehicle Detail
This is a legendary 1975 International Harvester Scout II in great shape that is extremely hard to find these days. This Scout features a 345 CI V8 Engine (5.7 liters), Automatic Transmission, Dana 44 axles front and rear, front disc breaks and rear drum breaks. This is a sub 100,000 mile scout that has seen constant attention and restoration throughout its life with the emphasis on keeping her as the reliable daily driver that she is. Nice enough to restore to concourse winning shape, tough and reliable enough to take off-roading, or just enjoy her as is. A great running, non leaking, excellent performing truck - I would not hesitate to take this Scout anywhere. Ongoing improvements have been to this Scout to ensure she remains a capable daily driver. As part of a component rebuild process to the engine several performance and reliability upgrades were made over the years to create a Scout that starts and stops reliably, does not leak fluids, cruises on the highway and is a safe truck to drive. In just the last year all of the following has been done, with receipts for the work in case you ever have a problem. 1) New Holley 350 CFM Carb. Not a rebuilt unit as the original was not the best unit ever put on a scout, but instead a brand new unit purchased from Summit. 2) Manual Choke, as part of the carb upgrade, a new manual choke was installed and routed through the dash. Installation is clean and looks great. 3) Pertronix 2 Electronic Ignition. Electronic Ignitions with Magnetic triggers are the way to go! With Pertronix magnetic triggers, the parts in the distributor don't need to touch so wear on the parts isn't an issue, and the higher energy resulting with increase power and fuel efficiency. 4) New Upgraded Coil - Installed at same time as ignition. 5) New Power Steering Box - Replacing the power steering box is really the only way to insure that your scout will track straight during highway driving. This is a $300 part and it is expensive to install, but this is the ONLY way you can enjoy taking your scout on the highway and highway speeds. 6) New Rollbar - New roll bar professionally mounted, safety is no joke. 7) New 3 Point Seat Belts - Installed professionally by ASC in Venice CA. Three point safety belts are a must for safety if you plan on ever driving your scout on the street. 8) New Rancho Shocks - A smooth riding truck, these shocks are also part of the focus on being able to drive this truck anywhere, including the highway. 9) Paint - Multi-layer job that is tough enough to absorb this and that, but she still looks great. 10) Optima Red Top Battery - Makes start up something you don't think about. 11) New In-Line Fuel System Filter - In line set-up that is easy ti inspect and change. The net result is a Scout that you can enjoy every day. In the morning you will not find a oil stain beyond the odd drop here and there, and you will find that she starts up with absolutely no hesitation because of the ignition an d battery setup. Engine oil is changed religiously with synthetic oil every 3k miles and she receives a regular SeaFoam treatment to prevent carbon buildup every 15k miles. (If you are not familiar with how valuable a seafoam treatment is to a classic car you should look them up on the internet). She shifts and downshifts smoothly, and can handle the worst traffic jams Southern California has to offer without a worry about overheating. The 4x4 system works great. Shift into neutral, engage the locks, and she can embarrass your neighbors shiny new SUV without breaking a sweat. Just went to visit a friend in Santa Monica Canyon and she went over a few inclines where others did not want to follow, and then cruised home on the PCH like a champ. Top - Included but not shown, I use a BestTop Bikini model in great shape. Tires - Yokahoma Tires with good tread pattern. Great grip in on and offroad situations, especially the occasional fire-road detour. Breaks - Front disc rear drums that work as they should without pulling to one side or another. Windshield Frame - This is the achilles heal of the Scout, but this truck has ZERO RUST in the frame. Frame - No instances of frame eating cancer. Body & Trim - Not perfect, but damn good. The trim piece on the drivers side door got caught while pulling out of a driveway, and for too long I have been bending her back into shape. This piece is less than $50 dollars on ebay and is simple to replace. Interior - Original interior in capable condition with the usual bangs, scrapes, scratches you would expect after 35 years. Original front and rear seats without rips. Carpet is complete, but has plenty of stains and washed out spots, so if you car about that type of stuff you will want to replace it. Documentation - Shop manual ($100 + online), owners manual and receipts for work are included. While this Scout will receive a fair amount of thumbs up from people on the road and whenever she is parked, potential buyers should realize that this IH Scout 2 is not a lifestyle purchase that you buy to look cool. This is the most capable SUV ever made and the International Harvest 345 V8 one of the most bulletproof engines ever made provided you give them the attention they deserve. If you care what the valet in Beverly Hills thinks walk away, but knowing your truck runs great because of your own efforts then this Scout is for you. Lots of love and attention went into this Scout, but changes in my life mean she is ready for a new owner. This Scout is in Marina del Rey, CA. Inspections encouraged as things happen to 35 yo trucks.
