Vehicle Detail
This is a clean and mostly original 1976 Suzuki RE-5 Rotary. The bike has not been restored and still has the original black factory paint. The original seat is in very good condition with no rips or tears. The bike still sports its original "S" mirrors. The tires are Continentals and still have plenty of tread on them. The battery is 2 years old. The engine starts right up and doesn't smoke once it warms up. It is a bit cold-blooded and needs to warm for a little while on choke before riding. Once on the road it pulls strong but has the typical RE-5 flat spot in the acceleration at about 3500 rpm if you hit the throttle hard. The bike lopes down the road effortlessly at 70 mph, so it is a classic machine that you can actually ride on today's highways. The aluminum bright work on the engine has been professionally polished as have the fork sliders. The fork seals are new. The brakes have been disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled with DOT 5 brake fluid. The current owner has this bike in a collection and finds that DOT 5 brake fluid ages much better when bikes are not driven often. The clutch and transmission work fine and the neutral light and gear indicator work but the indicator has one burned out LED segment. All of the electrics work including the horn and turn indicators. Most of the original chrome is in very presentable condition but is a little hazy and has some pitting on the top of the exhausts and on the rear fender. The right hand exhaust has a scuff on the top near the manifold which has been painted silver (I tried to show this on one of the photos). The fuel tank was slightly dented on both sides at one time by a fairing. The paint has been touched up and the pin stripes repaired at these locations. Again, I tried to show these spots in the photos. The fork tubes have slight pitting near the top and the hard chrome is weak where the seals travel, but they do not leak. The fork top nuts also have some pitting. Overall this is a nice original runner that has been gone through and set up for riding on local VJMC vintage rides and the occasional blast to northern Minnesota on weekends. With only 16,687 miles on the odometer, this bike has a lot of life left in it. With no reserve, this is a chance to own a very interesting and useable piece of motorcycling history at a reasonable price. It gets comments and draws interest wherever it is ridden. I am listing the bike for a friend who doesn't do computers. I will try to answer any questions about the bike that I can. There is a clean Minnesota title in the current owner's name. All in all this is a very nice and presentable example of the rare Suzuki Rotary. Payment is to be made in full within 7 days of the auction close by bank check or postal money order. The bike needs to be picked within a month of the auction close unless something has been worked out ahead of time. The buyer is completely responsible for the shipping costs and arrangements. I will assist where possible with the pick up.
