Vehicle Detail
Here it is folks, a true classic Peace mobile that could have been at Woodstock! Get it just in time for the Bonnaroo festival! I bought this from a local collector who was moving overseas a couple years ago, and now have it stored on the lot of a local repair shop where it is pictured, but realize it is in my best financial interest to let it go, reluctantly. The shop had it running and driving last fall, and it ran well, shifted and braked OK, but I never got it registered for driving. I assume anyone that buys it will need to recharge the battery, bleed/adjust the brakes, and do miscellaneous other common fixes these things might need, so buy it with some restoration in mind. The body is really solid, which is why I bought it. A good southern vehicle, so it has not been exposed to salt. I'm sure it will have some small areas that will require patching like all of them, such as around the lower panels like where the two side doors are. I don't do bodywork, so I would not buy anything too rusty. From what I have seen, the inside floor metal is good and it still has that old original matting. Overall it is certainly a really solid and straight bus to restore! According to the previous owner, the engine in it is an upgrade to a more powerful, later model, but the original motor is sitting inside the bus! No extra charge for it! Sorry, I'm no expert on these, just an admirer, so I can't tell you more than this about the mechanicals. I'm told this is the last of the true classic collectible buses, with the old style bumpers, etc., and the best year due to 12 volt system. Hard to find around here, for sure! It even comes with the fold-down seat AND a futon (lol) that was in it when I got it, ready for camping! As I recall, in case it does not show in the pic, one of the glass pieces in the louvered windows is missing. All the stickers and paraphernalia go with it! I like the sticker on it that says "War is not the answer". I remember those times...you may too, and this is the vehicle to take you back! It is sold in as is condition, and I have described it to the extent of my knowledge, so I offer no warranties. It does have a shop manual with it! If you want, I can let you talk to the mechanic at the shop who worked on it, just let me know if you want the number. It's a great project almost roadworthy! You will need to ship or trailer it, so I will assist with arrangements and loading if needed. I know a reasonable shipper if you need a quote. Good luck, it's really a COOL vehicle!!On May-06-10 at 08:00:04 PDT, seller added the following information: Hello bidders...thanks for all the inquiries. Many of you are asking if there is a buy now price or want to know the reserve. In fairness to everyone, I will allow the auction to run its course, and let the reserve be revealed when it is met, which is not far away! It will not be sold prior locally either! This is not one of those vehicles that has sat around rusting! It was formerly owned and driven regularly by a southern minister who collected cars, and had to sell his collection in order to travel overseas for mission work and needed the funds. He felt that it needed some shift linkage work, and perhaps brake work. The mechanic at the shop it is pictured did drive the vehicle and said it runs good, but the shift linkage is "sloppy", which I also understand is common with these old buses. I have not driven it since it has not been registered, but you are welcome to talk to the mechanic. This is a really good one to make a driver or a $30K show vehicle! Overseas bidders...I have a shipper you can contact if needed, who can take it to a port. Hate to mpart with this one! Good luck!On May-06-10 at 20:40:24 PDT, seller added the following information: Per several requests, I have uploaded additional pictures for your viewing as follows: 1)Closeup of inside and outside of windows showing crankout louvers and the script "Tempered safety glass", which is imprinted on both the larger glass and the louvered glass--appears to be original. 2)Sample floor section where I lifted the old matting to expose the ribbed metal floorboard, showing that it is very solid. 3)Picture of old engine removed years ago, included with bus, condition unknown 4)Box of spares! 5) Emblem affixed to top Hope this helps! On May-08-10 at 16:56:16 PDT, seller added the following information: Hello again--in response to many inquiries, I have added photos of the underside! Only four spots for pics, but I have more if you need them. All show that, as I stated, it appears dry and free of rust on the floorboards and the frame is rust-free and solid everywhere. All four jacking points appear to be solid. The vehicle is structurally very sound, and the only rust apparent is on the lower edge of the inside of the rockers which appears to be cosmetic in nature and should be an easy fix for any restorer. Look at the photos and you can see both sides of the underneath. One day till the end of the auction, so this info comes a little late, but those who waited and did not make negative assumptions from lack of pics will benefit! On May-08-10 at 18:06:34 PDT, seller added the following information: Several people have asked if this bus is under water. I would mention that if it were!! Understandable since the news has flood reports, but this is East Tennessee, and the floods are in middle TN. No flooding here. Only selling due to debt reduction after funding a new business! Otherwise, I would hold onto it!
