Vehicle Detail
This first-year 1967 Cougar was only 18 years old when my dad bought it in the mid 80s and I remember when he called to tell me about it. He even sent a Polaroid photo of it in parked his driveway for me to see. He said he could see people turning their heads to see the car when he drove it around town. They still do, maybe more now. It's aged well and I've owned it for about 16 years. Before I drove it 9 years ago from North Dakota to Maryland where I live, I did a lot of work to it including front end suspension parts, tires, new radiator core and a complete head job including roller-tip rockers. The little 289 pulls this car around fine even though my dad replaced the dual exhausts with a 2-into-1 set up. That needs to be replaced now, so it would be a good time to replace the dual setup. I love to watch people behind me at stop lights when they see the sequential tail lights flashing. One of the coolest things about this car. Mechanically, it does fine but it's in need of a tuneup, probably plug wires (even though they look fine), spark plugs ... you know the drill. I replaced the points with an electronic ignition. The Motorcraft carb works but I'd replace it so you don't have to pump the accelerator 10 times to start the car when it's cold. Basically, I haven't been able to give it the attention it needs and I can't see just letting it sit for another year without much use. The guy my dad bought it from was a Ford mechanic and he really had this set up nice. The C4 has a healthy shift to it and I remember him saying he did some extra work to the trans during the rebuild. The engine was rebuilt at 96,000 miles and that was just before my dad bought it. So between him and me, we've only added about 25,000 miles. The manual with the car has all the documentation from new. It was bought at Bob Smith Lincoln Mercury in Billings, Montana where I grew up. Two owners before my dad and I. Cosmetically, the pictures should tell the story but here's a bit more info. The repaint was beautiful but the clear was not applied properly and eventually started to peel off. Kind of like sunburned skin if you know what I mean. There are ares where some rust has decided to rear it's ugly little head but looks like it's pretty well contained still. I don't think the car was EVER wrecked. The doors are amazingly straight and actually still look good where the sun hasn't gotten to it. The vinyl top is like new. Inside, the headliner needs to be replaced because the seams have separated in a few places. Seats are excellent and you'll have fun playing those old 8 tracks by Kenny Rogers in the deck. If you don't have any tapes, tune in the AM radio. Hey, that was cool back then. Generally, this car needs some lovin' baby. Driving it around the block once a month doesn't keep her happy. If you live in the area, come and see it. I don't have current tags on it though so no joy rides. A $250 non-refundable deposit from winning bidder is due via Paypal at the end of the auction. Balance within 2 weeks by cash or bank transfer. No Paypal for balance. I would recommend shipping it for transport since it's not been serviced for several years. I will do my best to keep up with email inquiries. The reserve is very reasonable and well below the Buy it Now price. Here's your chance to own a nice late-60s car that still looks good enough to turns heads.
