Vehicle Detail
You're looking at this gorgeous automobile on Ebay most likely because you are a fan of the Mercedes-Benz 560SL coupe/roadster. I'm a fan too and have owned many of these attractive, durable, and usable Mercedes roadsters. This one may be the best one I have ever owned. Unfortunately, economics forces me to sell my last toy. Simplicity, superb build quality, and an enduring design are all hallmarks of the Mercedes 560SL. The 560SL was the culmination in the United States of what Mercedes-Benz internally referred to as the R107 chassis, a model run that lasted for 18 years, beginning in 1972 with the US introduction of the 350SL. In the 560SL, Mercedes got it all just right, offering essentially bullet-proof reliability, satisfying power, and aggressive good looks. The 560SL combined all that Mercedes learned about the V-8 R107 chassis cars into a cultural icon that quietly and confidently told the world its occupants had "arrived." Standard equipment included driver's side airbag and ABS brakes. Interior improvements for the 560SL included lovely burlwood accents, improved lateral seatback support, and a power passenger side mirror. Now over 20 years old, this car is attracting new buyers due to its iconic good looks, simplicity, and vault-like build quality. Total production from 1986 through 1989 came to 37,218 units and prices rose a whopping $16,000 from 1986's $48,200 to $64,230 in 1989. As the 1989 was the last year this model was produced, it is the most desirable and sure to increase in value many times over the next few years. Time, however, has not been kind to many examples and savvy buyers do their homework before venturing out to buy their dream 560SL. I know, since I have seen and passed on many. I can assure you that this car is a prime example. There is no rust or bodywork of any kind. This car was purchased in Naples, Florida from a retired gentleman who was the car's original owner. I actually have all the service records for the car since the car was new!! The car just underwent a oil change and the a/c was charged. I noticed a small pinhole leak in the radiator, so I replaced it with a OEM unit. The brakes and tires are in new condition, and all the electrics work perfectly. The majority of the service to this car was done at the Mercedes dealer in Ft. Myers, Florida. I sent the original cassette radio back to Becker (the manufacturer) and it was completely restored at considerable cost. I also had them install an additional jack in which you can plug in a MP3, IPOD, or CD player, so you get modern sound but retain the original look. I enjoy listening to some of my old cassettes from the 80's, though! The interior is in great condition, just minimal wear on the drivers seat. The dashboard is like new and even the carpets are in excellent condition. Even more impressive is the amazing condition the convertible top is in...... it is in as new condition. The original paint still shines and the car has the optional chromed rims, which really look great with the bright silver color. This car has always been garage kept, and I personally have kept it in a heated garage with a California Car Cover over it. These cars are meant to be driven regularly, and with proper maintenance can run forever. At the time I bought this car, I owned two other ones, one with 50,000 miles and one with 68,000 miles and this car was in much, much better condition since it has been driven an average of 6000 miles per year. I actually know a guy who has 350,000 miles on his and it runs great. This car needs nothing...........just serviced by Willy's Mercedes in Great Neck who gave her a clean bill of health! As an added bonus to the winning bidder, I am including a California Car Cover (which I paid $375 for last year) and a stand for the hardtop (worth $150).
