Vehicle Detail
Converted to run on waste vegetable oil.Gets 40-50 mpg. Just drove this back from Madison and have driven it to Madison-Indiana-Madison before. Was a daily driver. This could be a basic driver if you don't mind leaking oil, a parts car (has recent rebuilt injection pump) or one to fix up. 1985 body, 1986 engine . I have had the car for one year and installed the svo conversion myself. Here is a video for fun...cold starting. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RN0_parQeU Pros: Has a DIY svo wvo conversion which works well, you get about 1000-3000 miles on a veg filter (uses autozone f760 filters - $7) depending on how well you pre filter. Here is the system setup: veg tank 18 gal-hose on hose-10 plate FPHE-Veg filter-six port-IP-return is looped back to he veg filter Diesel system cut off at six port pollack valve. Start and stop on diesel. Gets roughly 45 mpg, odometer does not work so not sure IF YOU DONT want the veg system I will uninstall no problem but it may take extra time Cons: compression still good but leaks a little oil, no oil/coolant mixing (for more read below) - only fix is used or rebuilt engine or just run it as is - I have been running it leaking oil for the whole year I owned it (a used engine anywhere from $600, rebuilt from $1000) missing cap for right front rim some rust front windshield gasket needs work but does not leak water leaks into trunk when rains, new gasket would probably fix About the oil leak: I thought I had a bad head gasket, with the car running fairly well I thought I would fork out the money to have a guy take it apart and change the gasket. He found a fine gasket, but when the previous owners' mechanic, or who knows when it happened, replaced the head gasket they stripped a head bolt, drilled it out, put in a helicoil, and tightened it down a little too hard, at least according to my mechanic and it cracked the head from one of the oil drain holes, to the helicoil/head bolt hole, and from the head bolt hole through the block. It is a bolt on one of the corners of the engine. So you can imagine a hole with two spider-like cracks going from the oil drain hole and out to the outside of the block. I had the guy just put it back together cause at the time I needed the car running more than needing it not leaking oil. keywords: vegetable oil greasecar volkwswagen vw jetta idi engine waste diesel On Apr-19-10 at 12:28:59 PDT, seller added the following information: Wrong VIN I think...look for correct VIN shortly. Diesel is default fuel system, no changes made. Winner must send a message as to if they want the veg system.
