Vehicle Detail

This Dasher is a powerhouse and seats 5 adults comfortably. The main back seat folds into the floor to convert the cargo compartment into a huge, flat space where you can load all kinds of stuff or stretch out and sleep. It can also pull a small trailer (has a trailer hitch) that has all of your bikes, and toys, plus it has the factory rack still in perfect condition. From 1974-1981, VW marketed the Passat in North America as the Dasher. This is a 1981 Dasher, the last year the VW held on to the "Dasher" name before defaulting to the "Passat" as it was known across the rest of the world. It is the first FWD model made by VW and performs very well in adverse weather conditions. As a diesel, it does not disappoint: you'll sport 50-55 miles per gallon. This particular model was owned by the same individual from 1981 to 2007, when I purchased it with 125,000 miles. It now sports a little over 127,000 miles on the odometer. The specs: * Runs strong - easily does 70/80 MPH without struggling. * It's a 4 speed. This is one of the most efficient engines ever made. Apparently mechanically informed people know about and worship the VW Diesel Dasher engine. It is geared REALLY well, so you don't actually have to shift that often. If you aren't used to driving a diesel, you'll quickly adjust to this one which is very forgiving in the low gears and really turns on the juice in 3rd and 4th. * Reports between 50-55 miles/gallon. * Has just over 127,000 miles on the odometer. That's an average of 4,380 miles/year. * Interior is incredibly clean. Upholstery, carpet, ceiling, doors, exposed metal, etc. are clean and like new. * Breaks are good. * Engine runs well, no problems. The engine literally purrs. No sputtering or coughing. This is not a smelly diesel; it runs very clean. This car has been very well cared for. * Exterior: Perfect with no rust on the undercarriage. There are 4 small rust spots on the passenger side of the car which are easily touched up (see pictures). * Has been regularly maintained for 29 years. * Has been garage kept for 29 years. * Sun roof opens with a straight slide or tilt options - works perfectly. * Windows all work easily including the triangular in the front driver's and passenger's door for nice cool breeze. * Heater runs STRONG in the winter. You will be toasty during any winter conditions and the engine will still be running well even in cold conditions. Problems: One small tear about 1.5" in the driver's side seat (see photos). As mentioned above: paint job has 4 small rust spots which are easily touched up on the passenger side of the car (see pictures). The front right fender was scratched by the original owner and he repainted it in a shade that is slightly darker than the factory burgundy and less glossy. There are no dents as a result of this scratch. When I purchased it the starter was kicking it so I had a new one installed in July of 2007 and there have been no problems since. This has an after factory installed AC unit which has not worked while I have owned it. I have not looked into what needs to be done for it to work because I honestly have not needed it. The vents work well, and in combination with the sunroof and triangular windows in the front have kept me cool on all excursions. Please do not hesitate to ask me questions. The winning bidder on this beautiful Dasher will not be disappointed. This car could serve as a Veggie Oil Conversion Car, or you can keep it as is and enjoy the incredible mileage. It's a great car for road trips because of its size and efficiency. Everyone is comfortable no matter what seat they are in and everything fits in. To pick it up, you can fly into Kansas City, MO International Airport (Airport Code MCI) and I will meet you there to take you to the vehicle or with the vehicle for exchange at the Airport. MCI is a Midwestern hub with cheap direct or connection flights to most major cities in the US. Please do not hesitate to ask me specific questions about this car. The winning bidder is required to make a $500 deposit within 24 hours of winning the bid. The remainder is due in cash when you pick up the car. You are 100% responsible for picking-up the car within 7 days of winning the bid. This car is also for sale locally and I reserve the right to remove it from eBay at any time should I get an offer I can't refuse. Happy bidding on this incredible 1981 Diesel VW Dasher station wagon!
