Vehicle Detail
This is a relist because of a non paying winner. HISTORY: The car has a Georga history. The story that was told to me is the car was stolen in Georga and driven to Kentucky where the thief got a speeding ticket at Richmond Ky. The car was impounded and the old man that owned the car in Ga. said he was unable to travel to Ky to retrieve it, so it was sold off of the impound lot to a person in London Ky. His dauther drove the car to college daily for a few years until she graduated in 2004. I purchased the car then. When I got the car it had a rear axle going bad. Dealer price $500. I was able to purchase both rear axles rebuilt and exchange from NAPA for $79 each. I replaced the axles and all four wheel bearings, and started driving the car. It had trouble starting that winter so I had to replace the glow plugs. I used bosh {the good German ones that came in the car} I got them from NAPA for $10 each and installed them myself. Very easy. The car starts great ever since. When summer came around I repaired the AC. {New AC compressor, Dryer, Expansion valve, and a new Heater fan.} I also changed it to the new refrigerate}. It was surprising how cheap it was. The ac compressor was a GM cheaply $89. All the other parts was under $200. The car leaked oil badly so I changed the oil cooler lines and installed a recall idem that changed the gasket between the block and oil filter. The car still leaks oil but very little. Less than a quart every oil change. The transmission is slow going into gear and slips when it shifts between 1 and 2 gear. Always has. I was told that it needed a vacuum regulator valve on the transmission. It didn't bother me and I learned to let up off the pedal then it changes gears or use the gear level on the console. It has slipped between 1st and 2nd for 100,000 miles but no slippage at all while at highway speeds. Over the last 5 years I have changed the starter. Very cheap from any Advance auto store and easy to do. Last winter I purchased a new battery, changed the belts, and installed new tires. They are 80% now. The oil has been changed every 3000 miles as long as I have had the car. I put a new set of brake pads on about 10,000 miles ago. Disc brakes on all four wheels. I installed a am/fm/cd radio that sounds good. The front electric windows work, the passenger side rear window works intermittency. The drivers side rear window motor runs but the window will not go up or down. The cruise does not work. The tack works intermittency. The clock does not work. The door locks work, and everything else including the moon roof work. The car has been in southern Fl in the summer time with the air on doing 80mph on the interstate without heating up. Last winter I was in Indiana and the temp dropped from 60 degree's to 0 while I was sleeping in a motel. The car started the next morning without being plugged in but the heater thermal cracked the windshield when motor heated up. It is on the passenger side and does not interfere with the drivers vision. The car has been driven from New England to Florida, from Cape Hadrus to Texas and never missed a beat. When I purchased the car it had 278,000 miles, it has 348,000 miles now. This car gets 30+mpg on the highway, and has a 600 mile range, lots of power, and at all speeds it is very smooth. I usually cruse around 80 but still could go much faster. Brakes stronge and is very comfortable. I retired last summer and purchased a Lexus es350 to replace the Mercedes. As far as comfort, reliability and economy is concerned, I haven't improved my ride that munch. I will never drive the Lexus until I sell the old Mercedes. So it is for sale. I would drive this car anywhere today. I have driven this car as far as 1600 miles from home and it has always got me back home in a safe and secure manner. The paint looks good far away but shows its age with close inspection with some pealing on the roof. Good spare and jack and the original first aid kit is in the car. All lights work. Very good AC. The car will be sold with no reserve and payment must be made before the car is moved. Need $500 down by pay pal 3 days after the auction. balance in cash then the car is picked up. The seats and interior are good, the carpet on the floor is not original and could stand to be replaced. I never used floor mats. If you are looking for a very reliable, comfortable, economical car and aren't to concerned about the way it looks, then this car is for you. Sorry about the coffee cups in the floor, I use the car every day.
