Vehicle Detail
I am the second owner and purchased it two weeks after it was completely rebuilt. The owner decided to buy a new pickup and needed money. He had kept maroon towels over all the upholstery front and back since he bought it in 1981. When I bought it in December of 1993 it had 160,000 miles and about two thousand on the rebuilt motor. The car had been repainted and the landau top replaced. It looked like a new car. It now has 215,400 miles and is in very good condition. The only major flaw is the back window was shot with a pellet gun creating fine hairline cracks in the rear window. I checked recently and found three rear windows for that model for sale around the USA. The car has been well maintained and the transmission had its second overhaul in the fall of 2000 and now has 15,500 on the overhaul. The water pump, fuel pump, and starter were replaced in the last year. The battery and front tires are new. This is a stunning car and most people like its design. It has overdrive and at about 55 it kicks in and the gas mileage jumps to 20 mpg. The car is a pleasure to drive and has a 5.0 Oldsmobile engine with a four barrel carb. It has a lot of power and very good passing power on the freeway. I have only driven the car about 45,000 miles in 16 years. It is rust free. It has spent its entire life in Tucson except for a few out of state trips. You can't find a spot of rust anywhere on the car. It has two very minor and very shallow dents. You have to look closely to find them. This is a very rare car and I have never seen another one in the 16 years I have driven it. I have a history of owning my cars for about 15 years and taking very good care of them. The upholstery still looks close to new except for a small amount of fading in the front. No stains, tears, burns, or holes. I think the car has another 50,000 basically trouble free miles, except for minor maintainence. The car was always protected by covered parking when not in use. If you are looking for an elegant car with a very original design then you should like this coupe. I still enjoy just looking at it after 16 years of ownership. The paint and landau top are both in very good condition. The picture of the back seat shows a cloudy windshield. This is caused by taking a flash photo in the car against the sun coming through a windshield with hairline cracks which produced a white snowy look. You can see through the rear window with no trouble. Once in a while the sun hits it at the right angle and visibility is poor. When parking the car it is important to park it where the rear window is clear OR you can exit by driving forward. I have driven it with the pellet hairline cracks for three years with no problems. A replacement window would have be to be ordered from a vintage parts house and the current price is $200 plus shipping and installation. On my last check about 6 months ago there were three windows available....one in Texas..one in Illinois, and one in Arizona. I believe this car will become a collector item because of its elegant and original design. It also has an ageless design in that it has no design features that mark it as a dated car (in my opinion.) This is also a very rare car. If it were prepared for one of the big vintage car auctions I think it would bring a very handsome price. I would do this myself but I am moving and do not have the time to prepare it for vintage car auction. On Apr-09-10 at 07:53:02 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional information posted Friday AM on April 9th. The trunk springs were removed to install two oversized back speakers in the back dash. So you hold the trunk open with a metal pole that goes in a slot in the bottom of the trunk lid. It doesn't cause any damage or inconvenience. The front speakers do not work. I also installed a new AM/FM cassette radio in late 1995. I have used it very little but when I have the rear speakers are very impressive and put forth a very high quality sound. If you like high volume with no distortion you will love these speakers. They do rock and classical equally well. The speaker installation did not alter the appearance of the back dash. It looks totally normal. On Apr-13-10 at 06:27:14 PDT, seller added the following information: The April 2010 NADA Classic Car value for a 1981 Bonneville Brougham 2 door Coupe with a 307 V8 Engine, 4 speed transmission, and air conditioning is a low retail of $3250, Average retail of $6370 and a high retail of $7800. This can all be verified at the NADA web site classic car section. On Apr-16-10 at 06:29:08 PDT, seller added the following information: NOTE: THE EXPERIAN REPORT IS VERY MISLEADING. THERE ARE NO TITLE PROBLEMS. I have all the invoices of the rebuild of the car at about 157,000 miles. Everything was replaced. During my ownership I have replaced the full rear and front braking system, the master cylinder, the radiator, the alternator, the starter, the gas pump, the water pump, the hoses, the battery is new, and the front tires are new. I knew the owner and have all the invoices from his rebuild and all my repairs over the years. There is NO title problem and Experian has false information. Mechanically this car is in close to restored condition. The item on miles exceeding mechanical limits is a meaningless statement. I don't know the dunce who did the report but I give him an F. This car is in EXCELLENT condition except for the rear window which I described before. It is highly unlikely that you will find another car just like this and in this condition anywhere. This is one of a kind. Note: I put 55,000 miles on the car not 45,000.
