Vehicle Detail
This 1968 Mustang has been with us for 5 great years. I originally purchased this car as a local beach driver and for road trips with local events. It has been on the local No Frills Iron Bottom Motoring Tour three times and driven up the coast on Highway 1 many times as far as north Portland and South to San Diego. I am selling this Convertible because I just finished a red supercharged Triumph TR250 convertible that is just more fun in the canyons. The car is a well maintained cruiser and while I have tried to keep it looking stock, it really is setup mechanically for those long California drives. The car is very comfortable to drive and very quiet. Paint The paint is in good shape, many people comment that the car looks new. The wheels are replica Magnums with good chrome and centers. Center Console and Stereo I was able to locate the correct parchment center console for this car and I had that installed along with a Kenwood KTV512 deck with DVD Video Screen, and does have the IPod Connection and USB flash drive Cables in the center console. So it is ready for your iPod or usb drive full of music. (A USB 1GB drive with 900 songs is in the car and that goes with the auction but who knows if you will like the songs!!) The speakers front kick panel speakers and behind the rear seats are powered by a pair of amps mounted in the trunk. (You can add the bluetooth or Garmin GPS to this deck but I have not) At the same time I had DynaMat installed on the entire floopan and up to the top of the firewall Seats Custom front seats, these custom stitched seats are comfortable for long drives and are bolstered for canyon roads and highway 1, I had them stitched up in the same interior vinyl as the stock deluxe seats and installed the silver bars that makes them look just about like the stock deluxe interior seats (the ones that hurt my back lacked headrests.) These seats really make the driving experience better in many ways. Convertible Top The top is in good shape. The canvas is tight, the rear glass window has a great hinge, the fluids and drives side hydraulic cylinder replaced last summer. Trunk The trunk was professionally trimmed so the luggage would stay nice back there. For those of you that care about the under the skin mechanical things this is the status: Engine The Small Block Engine is a rebuilt 289ci in 2005 by the prior owner (See notes below) and has a mild cam with the HI-PO Cast Iron Exhaust. The car Idles Rock Sold and has a (new) Holley 4160, Holley rear mount elect fuel pump, larger gas tank (19gal) from a 1969 Mustang and Pertronix Ignition in the cap. I have the stock blue air cleaner housing and cover available should the buyer want that. Exhaust Dual Exhaust with cross over and a O2 Bung installed in the left exhaust down pipes for tuning. The Walker mufflers keeps the car quiet with the exhaust tips exiting at the rear valence. Transmission The Transmission is a rebuilt 10,000 miles ago AOD, Automatic Overdrive. The shifting is coordinated with the stock shifter handle. Rear Axle And the rear rears are 3.50 with an Auburn Locker installed. So it Cruises the highway at 80 and 2,500 rpm while accelerating sharply in town. Steering The Power Steering has been converted to Rack and Pinion with a Steeroids Kit for the Mustang and a Tilt Column pained parchment to look stock. The Disc Brakes are stock that came from the factory. Front and Rear End The front end was completely rebuilt 3 years ago with all new parts when the rack was installed and a larger anti-roll bar on delrin bushings was installed. The front end also had the upper A-arms relocated to the Shelby drop position with a slightly stiffer spring rate installed out back mid-eye leaf springs were installed along with Shelby style Traction Bars, the car hooks up nicely and handles the corners well (for a 1968 Mustang), much better than the car did stock. AC The AC is converted to 134a, the compressor and Condenser are about 1 year old. When this was done the car was converted to electric fans, one in front of the condenser as well as an electric main cooling fan. Brakes The stock power front disc brakes and drum rear stop the car straight. I replaces the clock that came with the car with an in dash center tachometer as shown in the pics, the clock is available (not working) if desired. The VIN numbers are 8F03C... This was made in Dearborn, MI, convertible, C-code which is a 289 2bbl 200hp engine. Door codes are 76B, M, 6U, 01E, 56, 2w which means Luxury Convertible, Wimbledon White, Deluxe Parchment interior, Feb 1968 production, Davenport IA DSO, Automatice Transmission. Here are the production numbers for this car: 1968 total production, 317,411. Convertible, 25,384. Davenport DSO 56 convertible, 273. Power Conv top, 20,607. Pwr disc brakes, 5,154. Pwr Steering, 16,139. A C 2319. Interior Decor (Deluxe) 3332 (includes all shelby's). Remote LH mirror, 4246, Wimb Wht with 6U decor int, 20. Prior Owner Notes: Engine is 289 that was rebuilt by a high end ford restoration expert. We put a torque heavy cam, bored 30 over, flat top pistons, arp rod bolts, edelbrock perfomer 4 bbl intak, port and polish ext ports, heavier valve springs, steel timing chain, polished crank, new water pump and oil pump, all new seals and gaskets, balanced and blueprinted. So all in all this is a 42 year old car that I have been improving and driving regularly for the last 4 years, it is very clean and ready to roll, but it is not a show car, it had road grime in the engine compartment and under the chassis and some interior wear. So a great drivers car.... A great stock appearing Mustang, that gets the looks ... While appears stock, it is modern where it matters... Feel free to ask questions and the car is available for inspection in Huntington Beach. Contact me via eBay messaging Also the Owner of the shop that installed all of the mechanical improvements is here in HB and would be available to speak to serious buyers about this Mustang. can also be spoken with about the condition of this car.
