2003 Lexus GX4701 Owner174,000 miles Silver Pine MetallicGray Leather Interior If you are in the market for a GX470, consider my truck. Sure, it has 174,000 miles on it, but. don't let that deter you by any means. Let me go into the GX470's and some of their "issues" and explain why you should consider my truck. I'm no expert, but we owned several of these and they are likely the most reliable truck on the planet...they have some quirks. -First and foremost, they have a timing belt, which needs to be changed religiously every 60,000 miles. If they break...you've destroyed your engine. While most people call this a $600 job...it isn't. To do it correctly you need to change the tensioners, and the water pump. This job is realistically in the $1500-$1800 range said and done. -The exhaust system on these trucks all corrode, and none will survive 130,000 miles without some sort of leak. These trucks should be very quiet, and every one I see start up at the supermarket has an exhaust leak. Get one with a newer exhaust, this is a $1200 repair, and after 130k, they ALL leak. -The frames...the Achilles heel of the GX470...the frames ALL rust. You may see a beautiful rust free truck, but most of them have control arms that are ready to rust off. If you are looking for one of these...crawl under it...I've seen some very scary GX470 frames...actually MOST of them! -The Exhaust manifolds...like clockwork...at 140k miles or so...you'll start getting a tick tick tick when you start them up. The exhaust manifolds crack...they ALL crack. A replacement of both exhaust manifolds costs about $2,000 said and done...usually turns into a $3200 job once you replace the rest of the rusty exhaust that is now leaking because its' been disturbed. -Fluid changes. While these trucks will run forever...literally...nobody seems to change the fluids...brake fluid, trans fluid, diff fluids, etc. I see most of these trucks driving around with 100k miles or better on their differential fluids. -Rear Suspension. These trucks have a air rear suspension...which, when working properly, is excellent...however the air bags eventually leak as these trucks age...and the ride height sensors fail. A air bag is $500 from the dealer...a ride height sensor is $300...be careful, most of these for sale have been converted to coil springs in the rear...which is ok...if you are into that sort of thing. -Keys...don't lose the keys...a single key is $400 + from the dealer. Enough said. About my GX470. Original owner, purchased new locally in IL. The truck has never seen salt or winter, and has always been garage kept. Never in any accidents, aside from my wife knocking the drivers side mirror off in 2010. It was replaced with a OEM Lexus mirror and that was done at Lexus. So aside from the paint on the mirror, the paint is all original, with all VIN stickers in place on every panel. The truck, aside from a few typical nicks in the paint...is EXCELLENT, even the bumpers are original paint! No significant dents, dings, ect. If you looked at my truck you'd assume it had 50K miles on it...or less! The interior is also excellent, with a excellent dash, no stains on the carpet, etc. Very little to no wear on the seats, everything works...no lights on the dash or anything like that. This truck has had some of the most impeccable service of ANY GX...regardless of miles. This truck does have the 3rd row seating, and the rear entertainment system. While it lacks factory Navigation, there is no updating the original units...and they are absolutely useless...and will take you places using roads that don't exist 15 years later...(ask me how I know). So, I don't really see it as a negative...I have a 2018 GX and I still use my iPhone for directions...couldn't tell you how to use the factory unit. The service and maintenance is where my truck really shines. First off, it runs and drives like the day it was driven off the lot new, and thats not by chance! I had all my warranty work done by Lexus, once that expired I used some of the best independent guys around for service. The reason for this is our Dealer isn't very good, over charges...and can't diagnose a flat tire! My truck has all the original paperwork, all FOUR original keys. Yes, they came with 2 master keys, a valet key, and a emergency key. I have them all. I have all the books and service records as well. The timing belt was most recently replaced at 167K or so....so less than 10,000 miles ago. This was the full job including the water pump and tensioner. The exhaust manifolds were replaced at 140k or so. You can only stand that typical GX start up noise for so long. This included both catalytic converters and 4 oxygen sensors. The exhaust itself was replaced twice...most recently a few thousand miles ago. (I'm a very particular owner) Using OEM Lexus parts installed by Midas. The rear suspension air bags and both ride height sensors were replaced in 2017, no worries about the suspension ever again! All fluids exchanged multiple times, most recently in the past 5000 miles. The brakes and tires were installed about 20k miles ago. New OEM Lexus rotors and pads. The rims have little to no corrosion on them...this is hard to find. The truck has had various other repairs and suspension components replaced over the years. It does not leak anything, does not smoke, use oil, ect. I've been using synthetic oil with religious oil changes every 3,000 miles using OEM Lexus filters. I washed the truck weekly, waxed it every 3 months, used rust preventative spray on the undercarriage every 6 months. So, the under side is as good as the top! So, while this truck may have 170,000 miles on it...don't be fooled. I feel that it is a better than a similar truck with 100,000 miles on it because of the preventative maintenance. I know every time the oil has been changed, I've been the only driver and have became a very informed owner. I bought one for my wife and one for my kids. They are that good. If you want to buy one with 100,000 miles on it on eBay with one key, leaky exhaust manifolds, due for a service with a rusty frame...by all means, eBay is full of these trucks...you are in for at least $3-$5000 of maintenance in the next six months. However, if you want one that may be a little "higher" mileage...but not high mileage by any means...(these are 500,000 mile trucks cared for properly) then consider this truck. Everything has been done, this truck needs nothing and regardless of the miles and age, is one of the best on eBay. Im open to reasonable offers on the truck, however understand that in the past few years, the truck has had around $7,000 of maintenance that EVERY other truck will need. This would be a great family car, I'd drive it anywhere...anytime. (630) 273 7595
