Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a 1978 CB750K which has undergone a complete frame-off restoration that was completed in May of 2018 with fewer than 20 miles since completion (documented). There was not a single nut bolt screw washer or lock washer that was not removed from this bike. All aluminum - and all fasteners that were correct - underwent a three-step - black, red and white - polishing system before being returned to the bike. Fasteners that were not correct were replaced with the correct fasteners. There are over 60 before, during and after pictures of the complete chassis build as well as receipts. Plus there are an additional 30 before, during and after pictures of the complete engine rebuild. The engine rebuild has an exhaustive spreadsheet of all the parts that were replaced, where they were purchased, and what they cost. Additionally the carburetors were professionally rebuilt using stock Jets.SUSPENSION RESTORATION INCLUDES: The forks received new O-rings, new piston seals, new dust boots, new chrome hardware, oil seals and fresh fluids. The rear suspension received new shocks with upper and lower shock bushings. New swing arm bushings and dust caps. WHEEL RESTORATION INCLUDES: Brand new rims and spokes front and rear professionally trued and balanced. New bearings and retainers front and rear. STEERING RESTORATION INCLUDES: The steering stem bearings were replaced with tapered roller bearings and new chrome hardware. ELECTRICAL: New starter solenoid, new battery, new coils, new turn signal relay, new coil wires, new plug caps and new NGK plugs. NEW RUBBER PARTS: Gas tank hold downs front and rear, master cylinder boot, side cover grommets, headlight stays, kickstand rubber, front fender grommets, turn signal grommets, carburetor insulators, air box ducts, new vent hoses, BRAKES: front brake line (used), rebuilt master cylinder, new caliper adjustment bolt and spring, NOS caliper and pads. New rear brake panel dust seal, new rear brake springs and shoes, new rear brake light actuator and spring. ADDITIONAL NEW, NOS OR AFTEARKET (*) PARTS: Footpeg pins and springs, seat hinge pins, side cover decals, master cylinder rebuild kit, stator cover, handlebars, drive chain, engine guards, side covers*, mirrors*, stainless steel exhaust*, rear turn signals*, front fender*, clutch cover*, points cover* USED PARTS: On a 40 year old bike, inevitably, there are parts that have become obsolete. Below is a partial list of used parts. Headlight bucket and headlight trim ring, headlight bucket ears, front fork garnish & emblem, fuel tank, front turn signal stems, oil filter bolt, oil filter housing, rear engine hanger, throttle cable, rear fender, rear tail light assembly, center stand, center stand and kickstand springs, fuse block, front reflectors, horn, rectifier, rear grab bar, seat, side cover emblems (included but not mounted because they don't measure up to the rest of the restoration's standards. See pic). I included close up pics of used parts whenever possible. ISSUES: 1) the stock Jets used in rebuilding the carburetors are not compatible with the aftermarket exhaust. This does not affect mid and top range performance as much as it does starting and idling which is very difficult. The solution is to put a stock exhaust back on, good luck with that, or reject the carburetors. I have the correct jets for this exhaust. 2) There are no passenger foot pegs. 3) There is a very minor oil leak from the drain plug. It only drips for a few minutes after running leaving a spot about the size of a dime. This is rectified by replacing the washer at the next oil change. 4) The right turn signal switch has to be positioned "just so" in order to get it to flash. Left one is fine. This auction is for local pickup only or the buyer arranges for - and pays for - shipping. I can assist with shipping by delivering the bike - up to 25 miles - free of charge. I can also assist with shipping for .70 per round trip mile up to 100 miles prior to Jan. 1 2019. Payment for shipping - if coming to me - in advance. Even though this restoration is extremely well done and extremely well documented and even though I have done my very best to describe the bike as accurately as possible -both the good and the bad- it is being sold as is with no warranties or guarantees of any type. My unfortunate circumstances are dictating that I sell the bike before I even get a chance to clean up the issues or enjoy it. That said -sadly- this is a no-reserve auction.
