Vehicle Detail
This is a rare, solid, WL21 A57 Rallye 340 Coupe. I am relisting this car, as the previous buyer was unable to follow-through due to unforseen circumstances. Please make sure this purchase is agreeable with your spouse if needed. PREVIOUSLY LISTED used OEM parts listed in the old ad will not come with the car this time. So I am re-listing the car at a lower price. I have an official registry letter of documentation from Galen Govier/GTS and added this vehicle to his registry. This comes with the purchase of this car. This reveals that this car is 1 of ONLY 394 built for U.S.A. After 12 years My wife has run out of patience and my brother cannot afford to buy it back right now, so it is time to sell. I will describe this vehicle to the best of my knowledge. I have owned this car 2 times; both times purchasing it from my brother. Actual title issue date reads 1/12/2008. 144,000 miles. The car was not road-worthy at the time and was towed to my home. Odometer reads 148, 857 on Sat. 8/11/2018 but may go up 3-6 miles per week to circulate fluids and keep battery up. The car runs and sounds good. Drives. Repairs have been done over the years while driving occasionally to keep my interest up. Odometer shows only 4857 additional miles put on it in the 12 years I have had 2nd possession of the car. To my knowledge this car has the original engine block. Camshaft changed by a previous owner to lower lift for more low-end torque, Cylinder heads have been replaced by a previous owner in the 90s. (One had cracked.) Cast intake manifold has been altered to single plane by my brother years ago. Has Edelbrok 650 carb. Has Headers. A set of unoriginal 1972 OEM cast iron manifolds come with the car. Original transmission is long gone. When my brother owned the car, he discovered years after he had the transmission repaired (he thought he was getting the original one rebuilt) at a transmission shop, that a different transmission was installed in its place. It is a heavy duty 727 (installed in taxi-cabs) but numbers revealed it was correct for a 72 small block application. Car was manufactured 11-72. I have had this same transmission rebuilt by local professional in 2013. Original linkage altered by same professional shop due to the poor header clearance. Original driveshaft lost/gone. Driveshaft was fabricated new and balanced by a local professional shop also in 2013. Bought new, complete 3.90:1 positive traction 8 3/4 gear from Randy's Ring & Pinion, and new Moser axles (but cannot locate either one of these receipts) and had these installed by the same shop. Original 8 3/4 rear housing not in car, but available with purchase. Monroe gas shocks installed on the front. Rear air shocks installed. New 2 1/2" dual exhaust installed 2013. Both original front fenders had rusted lower sections and were replaced with good OEMs. Original powerbulge hood long gone. Brother obtained a RARE nice '71 OEM Functioning Ramcharger Powerbulge hood from the Nats in the late 90s and installed it. The Ramcharger is connected to carburetor vacuum to function, currently. Original bench seat is long gone. (It was black vinyl with gray plaid square inserts) Brother installed bucket seats and had them and the rear seat reupholstered prior to 2006. Top of rear seat shows some sun fading, but intact. I have replaced the headliner, rear package tray, trunk divider (and installed new juke pad for sound deadening), carpet & sound deadener from Year One. New driver's side mirror from Year One. Door panels and rear panels in good driver condition. Front and rear window fuzzies, and some weather stripping have been replaced with new. Both left and right door wrapping weatherstrip pieces are original and in decent shape. Original door weather stripping pieces at the/along the roof look original and are wearing. Vertical weatherstripping that meets the door window have been replaced with new. Trunk weather stripping has been replaced with new. Original trunk lid was rusted and was replaced with a nice '71 OEM (with factory rear spoiler application capability; see pic) one. Both Rear Quarter panels and trunk floor extensions were replaced with new , and body primered in high quality black EPOXY primer in 2008. 150 HOURS of labor went into the body work by a local highly reputable body shop. Life has gotten in the way since that time, and I have yet to get the car painted. It has been covered with quality car covers from then until now. Never driven in winter, and not in the spring until after the spring rains had had plenty of time to wash away the winter salt. Have been caught driving in light rain only 2x. Otherwise driven short distances in good weather only. Wheels are OEM police car 15 x 7"s. (The 14x6" Magnum 500 wheels that were on the car when my brother 1st purchased it ; in ~1991 or early 1992 (?) are long gone.) BF Goodrich 255/70/15s have seen little road miles since bought in 09/2015; at 148,367 miles. Front suspension: have had upper and lower ball joints, inner & outer tie rod ends, idler arm replaced. Upper control arm bushings replaced. Steering gear has been replaced with new. Rear sway bar bracket on one side has been repaired/welded years ago, but presents to function properly. Brother updated car to electronic ignition kit (from Summit; which included new compatible distributor) prior to 2006. Trunk floor is solid Reproduction 73 Dodge service repair manual, reproduction owner's manual, reproduction sales brochure come with purchase. THE BAD: There is some play in the steering despite new steering gear. Despite front end alignment, steering wheel goes to the left. Alignment rechecks show that it is on track. The front tires squeal with driving over 35 mph in a straight line and with turning left. I have obtained a new rag joint and steering coupler with guts/components that will go with the car. New lower control arm bushings from Year One will also go with the car. The turn signals and horn do not work. (The lights work front and rear.) The passenger rear outer tail light bulb socket looks burnt. A used OEM rear lights wiring harness will go with the car as does a used OEM under dash wiring harness. The left rear quarter panel shows filler cracking in 3 places. (See pics.) Needs paint. This is a factory red (FE5) car that came with the performance hood treatment (V21). (See the old ~1993 pic.) The front valance panel has flat spots, but a good condition used OEM replacement comes with purchase. 1 rear quarter panel corner extension with minor staight edge damage noted when trunk lid opened. A good left and right used OEM corner extesion pieces come with the car. Original dash pad with multiple cracks and is covered with an aftermarket plastic cover; but it is now showing some sun warping. Original center seat belt's plastic cover (driver and passenger) well worn/poor condition and show cracking. (Were originally for bench seat application; original bench seat long gone.) There is a quarter sized hole and a few nearby pen head holes in the driver's floor board. There is a thin, pinky shaped hole in the rear passenger floor board. Pin holes rust in rear bumper near bottom left corner near tail light lens, but you have to look closely. Needs a better replacement. I inadvertently broke/bent the bumper jack lifting ear. Do not have a replacement. The K-member will eventually need replacement. the rear driver's side ear has rusted. See frame pictures. It has been a labor of love. It has many blemishes as expected of a 45 year old car, but has a lot right with it. Rare car with VERY rare functioning (although not as designed) Ramcharger fresh air scoop hood. I have described this car to the best of my ability. Look at pics closely. I strongly encourage you to come see and drive the car before bidding. The car is sold as is. No warranty stated or implied. Please send any questions before bidding. Serious bidders only please. No delivery. Buyer responsible for picking up/arranging delivery of car and above mentioned parts . $500.00 deposit due within 48 hours. Will only accept cash or cashier's check that clears at my credit union bank prior to taking the car away. Thank you for your interest. Good luck!
