Up for sale and with no reserve is my silver 1998 SL 500 Roadster. This reliable car is in very good condition with only minor superficial scratches and dings typical for a vehicle this age. This Mercedes has been very well maintained and cared for, as the documentation will show. It has a powerful 5.0L V8 32-valve engine with twin camshafts on each bank. The engine runs quietly and is very smooth, that is, until you put your foot down and the immediate roar of the engine reminds you of its impressive heritage. Very strong and fast, yet surprisingly economical for a car that will easily take you to 155mph. Handling and braking are also superb. The tires were replaced last year, and new wheels added too! The full-size spare is in very good condition. All of the convertible roof hydraulics have been replaced and work perfectly. The roof raises and lowers within 25 seconds. The hard top is in excellent condition The leather interior is clean and tidy and in overall good condition for its age and mileage. It has never been smoked in. The wood trim is in beautiful condition. The air conditioning is freezing cold! The car stereo was recently replaced with an OEM Bose unit. The 6 CD changer works perfectly. The radio antennae is not hooked up though, so there is little or no radio reception. The sound quality from the Bose system is amazing! Although mostly cosmetic, the following items could use a little TLC: •The convertible roof needs adjusting for fit on the rear left corner. There are some scratches where the hardtop attaches. •Driver interior door panel is loose. •Door mirrors are loose but secure. •The driver’s seat has a 3 inch worn patch on the side. •Some of the interior plastic trim parts have gotten brittle or broken over the years. •The A/C display is a little hard to read. •The hood needs a new sound proofing/insulation pad glued to it. •Trunk shocks are not holding the lid open.
