Vehicle Detail

This listing is for a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup Truck (NO RESERVE AUCTION). Please read this auction carefully before submitting questions, as it will provide details of the vehicle description, history, condition, auction terms, and more. Vehicle Specifications/Options:1998 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup TruckMileage: Less than 118,000 on the odometer (see picture of exact mileage at time of listing)Transmission: AutomaticStandard Cab with long bed (I think it is 8ft)Includes black Leonard bed linerV6 engine, 3.9 literRear wheel drive (2wd only)New tires were purchased a few years ago and have barely been driven on. The tread is still good on them.Radio with cassette tape player (not sure if cassette works because I don't have cassettes)Air conditioner (seems to work at the time of this listing)Vehicle History: I purchased this vehicle at a local police auction in 2008. I think it may have been a truck used for the city work, but I'm not sure. It has never given me any major problems, and it has served as a backup vehicle that I have rarely driven. I have changed the battery 2-3 times, changed the tires once, changed the coolant 1-2 times (it's due again), changed the air filter, and have kept the oil changed (typically 1-2 times per year - it's due for another change). Other than that, I haven't performed any other major repairs since I have owned it, and it has not been in any wrecks since I have owned it. Vehicle Condition:The body of the truck is still in decent condition but does have flaws. It has some random dents, scratches, and rust spots (back bumper and random spots on truck), but overall looks pretty good. A piece of the plastic grill is broken in the front. There is slight bubbling on the chrome grill on the front, but it seems to be holding. The headlights are hazed. The license plate tag lights seem broken or damaged. There might be other minor issues - please see pictures (and hover to zoom) to get an idea of the body's condition. The lights seem to work, but the backup lights are not coming on, and the right front signal doesn't seem to come on.The interior condition of the truck also has some flaws, including several large cracks in the dashboard, fading, the top fabric has become loose and hangs down (it could probably be glued), seats have imperfections, etc. Please see pictures for an idea of the condition of the interior.Mechanical condition: This truck will start, drive, and stop at the time of this auction listing. It idles rough and sometimes dies after starting. It seems to do better after it has been started for a while. I am not a mechanic, but it may be bad gas (from sitting in the yard for the past year), perhaps a sensor, exhaust leak, or need of a tune-up. It hasn't been driven for several months, except for around the yard a few times before listing it for sale.Other Known Mechanical Issues: In addition to the things above, here are some additional known issues:The brake light and ABS light have been on since the day I bought it 10 years ago. I never had it checked because I rarely drove it. The truck seems to stop fine, and I think it might be an ABS sensor issue (not sure). Nevertheless, I'd recommend checking it out before driving.Exhaust leak - Since the day I bought it, it has always made a tapping sound while accelerating, which would quit once acceleration was stopped. I was able to drive it fine, but it I think it may be an exhaust leak at the exhaust manifold (not sure).Rough idle and dying. Although the truck does start at the time of this listing, it idles rough and sometimes stops after you press the gas at idle. After it has warmed up, it seems to do a bit better. It is very low on gas, too.The engine seems to run okay and the transmission shifts gears without any known problems. The hoses and belts are older and will probably need to be inspected and / or replaced soon. It may also need a tune-up and other miscellaneous parts replaced, cleaned, or other fluids changed. It will probably need a new battery within the next year or so, too.The exhaust pipe / system is a bit rusty and may need replacing in the future. I'm not sure how frequently this has to be done.Since the truck is 20 years old, it will probably need ongoing maintenance, tune-ups, or repairs. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other mechanical or minor issues of which I am unaware. I have tried to list the major issues I am aware of. This truck is being sold in "as is, needs work" condition, without a warranty or claims of reliability.New trucks cost upwards of $25,000-50,000. If you're mechanically inclined, you might be able to save some money by fixing up this truck and maintaining it. Inspection Option: If you live locally to Limestone, TN, you may arrange a time to visually inspect it or start it before the auction ends. However, the vehicle cannot be driven on the road due to insurance or potential mechanical issues. Once the auction ends, the sale is final. Auction Terms: Please do not bid unless you intend to honor your bid.I cannot end the auction early once I list it.Payment must be made in cash. Please bring exact amount of the auction's final price with you.Because this truck idles rough and hasn't been driven in months, I'd recommend having it towed or shipped to your location for further inspection and/or repair before driving it on the road.It is the buyer's responsibility to arrange and pay for any towing or shipping expenses, as well as any taxes, insurance, or registration fees. Please pay for the auction and pick up the truck within 7 days of the auction's ending. The title will be completed, signed, and transferred to the buyer once payment has been been received. All sales are final, and the truck is sold "as is, where is" in "needs repairs" condition. No warranty is offered or implied. No formal inspection has been completed.
