Vehicle Detail
General – What we have here is a very nicely preserved Montana high country desert pickup. It is a 1948 Ford, one of the most sought after of the 1940s – 1950s. This is the truck many people are looking for, one which is drivable, with minimal work, while you restore, or use as is for a while. The best part about this one is it is an F-2, three quarter ton, so it can do some work for you. This one would make a great shop truck, tow vehicle, construction truck, toy hauler, or use for farm or ranch work. Advertise your business, club, race team, cause or whatever. It is an excellent candidate for total restoration, or with minimal work drive as is for work or play. I have never licensed it or driven it on the highway, however it does have a clear Montana title. This truck started duty as a fire department vehicle for a small north western Montana town. It appears to have had follow on owners who took very good care of it. Body and exterior - The truck is it is amazingly solid inside and out, (see pictures). The cab is practically rust free except for some around the frame arms in the front, behind the bumper, which I never got around to. The floor and cab corners are virtually rust free, (see pictures). The truck still has its factory tool box behind the seat. The pickup box had some issues, so I removed it, built a wooden subframe, put in a plywood floor, welded in some new metal and applied primer. Overall the exterior is very presentable, the cab is a repaint and the truck does have 70 years of accumulated dents, dings, welds and blemishes. The windshield has a crack, but it is not in line of the driver’s sight. All other glass is very nice with no cracks or fogging. The wheels I believe to be original, and are the correct Ford Vermillion red. The doors, hood and tailgate open and close properly. The hubcaps and trim rings are brand new and the tires are almost new and are correct 650 X 16 Coker brand. (see pictures). Mechanical - The engine, I believe. is the original or is a period correct 239 flathead that starts and runs nicely. The clutch, transmission and rear are also period correct and may be original. Beyond this description I don’t know much as I have not driven the truck for any distance. The exhaust system is brand new, dual, from the exhaust manifolds to the rear of the truck. The brakes are marginal but do stop the truck. However, I would ask that you check the entire system and adjust and or replace as necessary, or have your mechanic do that as these old trucks had only a single chamber brake master cylinder and on their best day any leaking hose or cylinder anywhere and you were completely out of brakes. The truck has not been converted to 12 volt and comes with a good 6-volt battery. The external lights do not work. Interior – Amazingly complete, and like a time capsule, all knobs and features are original, and the dash was never cut for a radio or whatever. (see pictures). The headliner is still present and in good condition. The color of the instrument panel is still very vivid, which is evidence that much of the old truck’s life was under cover of some kind. The seat is intact; and I believe is a recover. The heater is present as well as all controls and works quite nicely. The driver’s wiper works, (the passenger’s wiper doesn’t exist, as that was still an option in 1948). All gages except the gas gage work properly, (see picture of gages with engine running).. Summary – This old truck is an excellent example of originality and is very complete to include all the garnish, trim, badges, interior knobs, gages etc. For someone with a little mechanical ability this truck can be an everyday driver for work or play or both. It has a lot of potential to carry your business logo, tow your toys or whatever and be a lot of fun. It deserves another chance and to be put back on the road and maybe even show up at your local car show or parade. Spare parts, most of which are new that have not been installed and will accompany the truck include: · New rear bumper and bumper bolts · New rear light and license plate set · F O R D script for the frontNew fan beltNew Arm rest and hardwareNew distributor capNe wiper assemblyNew door weathersrtipNew gas cap Payment, Disclaimers, Storage, and Transportation - I require a non-refundable deposit of $500.00 within 48 hours and the remainder prior to me sending you the title. I prefer bank to bank transfer, cashier’s check or cash in person. Please only the initial $500 by PayPal, because of their 3% surcharge, unless you are willing to pay that. Well I have tried to represent the old truck as honestly and accurately as I can. Please read my narrative; please look closely at the pictures. Make no mistake, it is not currently a roadworthy vehicle, mostly due to weak brakes and lighting issues. However, with very little work and minimal investment it could be roadworthy in short time. The truck is sold as is, where is, and with no guarantee or warrantee implied or specified. I am very proud of my 100% rating and will answer questions. I will post some of them so that others may benefit. If you have less than 10 bid history, please contact me so I can be sure of your sincerity and ability to pay, or I will cancel your bid. I would not like to store the truck very long for worry of liability. I will help your transporter in any way that I can. Good luck with your bidding and thank you for your time spent in reading my listing. On Jun-15-18 at 12:39:29 PDT, seller added the following information: Addendum, 15 June 2018 - I have noticed some zero feedback biding on my truck. I asked that if you have no feedback to please contact me before bidding so I can determine your ability to pay. The high bidder incurs both a legal as well as ethical responsibility to follow through. These ads cost us money and I don't have that much. Thank you. On Jun-16-18 at 10:06:57 PDT, seller added the following information: 2nd Addendum, 16 June 2018 I am also including the original wood floor metal slats that went between and held down the boards. They can be cleaned up and reused if you have the time and patience. Also found the rear fender braces to the frame which I removed when the bed work was underway. Also I think I have two new bumper to frame braces and if I can find them, they will accompany the truck.
