Vehicle Detail
2001 Toyota Camry CE RARE STICK-SHIFT 5-SPEED MANUAL EDITION! This is definitely a project/parts car. I can't stress this enough. It needs a lot of work. Car does not run right now. It will have to be towed from Dumont, NJ. No exceptions. I bought it privately in 2010 with 67,000-plus miles on it. It now has 314,000-plus miles. Some of these are highway miles. This car has driven to Virginia Beach and back a few times. From my recollection, I am the 3rd owner of this Toyota. Feel free to check out the VIN, but since I have owned this Toyota it has had three minor accidents. Twice in one year it was hit by a car from behind and had the bumper replaced each time (weird, right?), and once it was sideswiped on a corner of the front bumper. To my knowledge, frame was not damaged after any incidents. Truth be told, the battery has to be charged before attempting to start it. Last attempt at starting it (5/24/2018), the engine did not even crank, nor did the electronics come on. When car does start up, it does not stay on. Only 2 of 4 cylinders are allegedly working so it is not getting all the power it needs. Two mechanics have said it needs a new cylinder head. Recent repairs were replacement of water pump, timing belt, cylinder head gasket, center muffler pipe, tie-rod, alternator belt and alternator (all after-market). Spark plugs and plug wires were replaced about five months ago. Clutch has been replaced twice since I've owned it: first time the mechanic did it and successfully saved the original flywheel; second the entire clutch was replaced (about four years ago). Clutch was working great when last driven. When car did start last on 4/28/2018, engine light was not on, but that's because it had lost a lot of battery power. While driving, light did flash on and off probably due to the aforementioned cylinder loss. That said, light will go on eventually if successfully fixed - due to possible catalytic converter failure. Front struts may need replacing. Ceiling upholstery has been coming down towards the driver's side for a few years now. Paint job is solid, but appears to be peeling on one of the front corners (see photo). It was like this when I got it. Otherwise, I don't see much rust on the body. Has AM/FM radio with CD/Cassette player. Cassette player does not work right. GOOD NEWS [???]: the frame is all intact and very solid. Trunk is holding full-sized spare tire! Great car for amateur mechanic practice or seasoned professional/hobby-est who wants a stick-shift Camry to make into a better car. When working right, Camry drove smooth, powerful and took me many places. Maybe you can help continue the journey. AS MENTIONED, CAR MUST BE TOWED. WINNER ASSUMES ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR TOWING PROCEDURE AND EXPENSES.
