Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1988 Chevrolet Silverado V30 4x4 dually single cab truck. This truck is just like the C30 and K30 trucks from 1973-1987 but this year model was branded as R30 and V30. Single cab 4x4 dually trucks are rare and this one is even more rare in that it is a 1988 model. In 1988 Chevy changed body styles on all Silverado trucks except the heavy duty 1 ton dually so this truck has the square-body styling of the C30 and K30 trucks from 1973-1987 but has more modern technology such as single-point electronic throttle-body fuel injection (TBI), electric fuel pumps and high-pressure fuel lines, a "smart" powertrain control module (PCM) - which controlled the fuel injection system, fuel-to-air burn ratio, engine ignition timing, and the Turbo Hydra-Matic's turbine torque converter clutch. This truly is one of the last square-body Chevy trucks that were ever made. This truck runs and drives great! The 350 engine is strong and has plenty of power. The transmission and transfer case were rebuilt about 500 miles ago and work like new; 4x4 works great. The flywheel was replaced at the same time as the transmission rebuild. The gas tank rubber fuel lines were also replaced while the truck was up on the lift. This truck is strong mechanically. All gauges and lights work like they should and this truck is equipped with working air conditioning, heating, and it also has a CD player (mounted with a "highliner" headliner with speakers built in). The headlights are newer, the taillights are LED, and the truck also has a bull bar with KC lights mounted on the front bumper. This truck is electronically sound. The body and undercarriage are solid as well (see pics) There is minimal surface rust anywhere on the truck and I would say it is in much better shape than most 30+ year old vehicles I have seen or owned. There are a couple of spots around the rear dually fenders that are bubbling but it's hard to say if it's rust or not. This truck is a blast to drive and every time I take it out I get tons of looks and a few "thumbs up." This is one of the better looking single cab square-body dually trucks around; you will not be disappointed! Buyer is responsible for transport/shipping but I can/will keep the truck parked under a carport for as long as needed until the details are worked out. Thanks for looking and please ask any questions you might have! A few items worth noting:The odometer reads 75,084 but I'm sure it's really 175,084 - The Auto Check report will flag this as an odometer issue but that's only because the truck can't read past 99,999 miles and someone reported it with lower miles once it rolled over years ago. I do not believe the engine has that many original miles on it because it runs a lot stronger than you would expect if it was pushing 175,000 miles.I will continue to drive this truck once or twice a week so the mileage will go up slightlyThe dashboard has a couple of cracks (see pics) - dash is still presentable but you may want to get a new pad or capThere are a couple of interior trim pieces missing (i.e. interior door pull strap cap) - minor but thought I'd mention itThe oil gauge works but usually needs a few minutes of driving before it warms up and reads properlyThe belts occasionally squeak at first start up (only for a few seconds at most) - minor; but they may be getting close to needing changedTwo of the tires have slight cupping from lack of rotation - once I got the truck I immediately moved them to the rear and all is well - all tires have plenty of tread leftThe rear end is pretty stiff but rides a lot smoother with a few hundred pounds in the bed - it is a 1 ton dually so that is to be expected but you could easily take out a couple of the leafs and it would ride softerThe 4x4 works great but the transfer case switch and/or the 4x4 dash light do not work - basically the dash does not light up when truck is in 4x4 but everything else works properlyThe exhaust has a slight leak (sound like passenger side) - I took it to a shop and they said it was probably just the donut - not a major issue and you may want to run a different exhaust anyway if the side pipes are not preferredThe frame has been slightly trimmed to fit the headers - I had this checked out when the transmission was being rebuilt and the mechanic said it was not trimmed enough to affect the structural stability but you could easily reinforce it with some steel if preferred
