Vehicle Detail
1974 Chevy Cheyenne C10 Half Ton Pickup “Granddad’s Clean One-Owner Rig” VIN: CCV144Z125003 Back in the summer of 1974 I was running the detail shop at Chuck Olsen Chevrolet in Shoreline, Washington just north of the Seattle city limits. After prepping hundreds of new Chevy’s for showroom delivery, my wife and I decided to make the jump and purchase a new truck for ourselves. Being all of 20 years old, we knew nothing of the process and were quickly over our heads dealing with the F&I desk manager. Instead of taking on what seemed like a massive $3,200 vehicle loan, we decided my college tuition would be a better investment so that fall I quit the job and became a full-time university student. While I’ve never regretted getting a degree, that missed opportunity for a new half-ton still grates a bit all these decades later. I’ve owned many since and this ’74 Cheyenne is about as close as any could come to ever duplicating what might have been in my rented carport all those years ago. Take a good look at the posted photos (all were taken on Friday, May 11). It’s obvious the attentiveness and care given by the sole past owner has really paid off! With just a casual glance you might think this is just another ol’ truck. But look a little closer and you’ll realize what a find this thing really is! The first hint comes when checking for rust. The usual spots at the bottom of the doors, in the rocker panels and around the wheel wells have none! For those not familiar with the Pacific Northwest, specifically Western Washington, we get our share of misty rain, but hardly ever any snow. At the first sign of a falling flake everyone panics and stays home. School is cancelled and business grinds to a stop from “sick” workers calling in. Truth is, our winter roads are rarely salted, so you’ll see very few vehicles here with any serious rust problems! Climb over, under and around this rig - I know you’ll come up smiling as there are NO serious body corrosion issues! When you open the hood, you’re in for another nice surprise. This rig still has it’s original, clean, great-running 350 V-8 motor. The second you fire it up, you’ll know it was built to last! I love the deep burble this strong engine makes through the easy-breathing real dual exhaust system. Almost sounds like a hot rod! I had my shop tech look over the mechanicals and all that was needed were fresh sparkplugs and an oil change. The automatic transmission is very strong with the data plate showing there are 3.73 gears in the rear pumpkin. The “Cheyenne” package denotes exterior trim upgrades and two-tone paint, wheel covers and a carpeted interior with more dash gauges. Here’s how the VIN breaks down: C – Chevrolet Production C - Conventional Cab, 2WD V - 350 CID (5.7 Liter) V-8; 2 BBL Carb 1 - “Heavy Half-Ton” ie “Big Ten” 4 - Pickup body Type 4 - last digit of model year (1974) Z - Fremont California Assembly Plant The truck was delivered to the Seattle Sales District after its scheduled production date. It has been a local rig since new! There’s no special order information, so it most likely entered regular dealer stock inventory. Up in the cab you’ll find full factory instrumentation on the dash including oil-water-amp gauges. Look at the pictures of the bench seat. It’s in great shape on both the base and backrest as shown. Same goes for the gold carpet, it’s in solid, clean condition as well. About the only thing a new owner will want to do is replace the radio. It’s an older cassette model, so a few hundred for a nice CD or Bluetooth system will be money well-spent and you can still use the underdash-mounted equalizer. I really like the heavy-duty 16-inch wheels with rare original Chevy steel wheelcovers; all four are straight and true and give the truck an added sporty appearance. They’re wrapped with very decent tires having at least 50 percent remaining tread all around. Outside, I know you’ll also be impressed by the classic factory two-tone white over yellow paint. It’s had one quality re-spray and is as clear and bright as the day this truck rolled off the Fremont assembly line. The bed has been well-sealed with quality roll-on bedliner material. Please feel free to email or contact me with any questions. My name is MARK Thompson and my direct number is 206/914-1173. You’re welcome and encouraged to come by my Auburn, WA warehouse to inspect & drive the truck. You might also make an offer before the end of the auction, as many of my vehicles sell to smart “early birds” that call and work out a deal prior to the auction’s end. I always reserve the right to sell during this period. A Few Additional Terms and Conditions: The entire purchase price is due by cash (in-person only) or certified funds within seven days of the auction closing. I can accept credit/debit cards but will first need to send an invoice from our card processor and ask that the 3.5% fee charged by them be added. Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later -- You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends. If you do decide to have the car shipped home, there are numerous vehicle transport companies to choose from. We ship vehicles regularly and I'd suggest that you get bids from the transporters listed here on the Ebay site by pressing the “Shipping” tab found above this description section. I do have a local company many of our buyers have used for delivery all over the country and I’d be happy to get a COD bid from them after the auction is completed. The zip code for pick-up would be 98002 (Auburn, Washington). The shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER. The Chevy can be stored free of charge at my location for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received. After that period storage is $20 per day.
