Vehicle Detail

Back in the early 1980's I purchased this 1969 Olds Cutlass S convertible from the original owner who had ordered it new from Seattle Washington. This classic has lived almost all its life in sunny San Diego. No sense boring you with over 35 years worth of service and parts receipts, but I will say that I’m a car guy and this car has been kept up with routine maintenance throughout its life. I sure hate to sell it, but I've not got the garage space now, am getting too old for tinkering, and it kills me to see its wasted potential just sitting under a car cover in my driveway. Okay, enough rambling on background stuff. COSMETICS: First off – The photos look better than the car actually is. It's honestly a 10 foot away car, meaning at 10 feet away, or driving past an onlooker, it looks awesome. But once it’s parked and you get up on it you'll see a few flaws. Minor rust spots (inch size or so) in the usual Oldsmobile lower quarter panel locations, the paint job is nearly 20 years old so it’s got some bubbling on the upper surfaces (hood & trunk), a few door dings too. The convertible top is very old but it doesn't leak and the glass back window is clear and fully intact. The driver’s side front quarter panel shows spider lines (some bondo underneath, was a victim of a Grateful Dead concert hit-n-run). The chrome is pretty good overall and shines up nicely. The interior door panels & upholstery front/rear seats are all in great shape, no holes and still supple. The carpet is old & faded and needs to be replaced. Some of the rubber bits are showing their age, but again its 50 years old and it still doesn't leak in the rain. MECHANICALS: The 350 engine & transmission were rebuilt in 1987 by ALL-Cal Engine and regularly maintained since then. The engine was again pulled and dressed up in 2011 and it was also dyno tested by JBA Racing showing 181hp at the wheels and an amazing amount of torque. NOTE: The car currently has 148342 total miles, but the engine only has around 45,000 miles. A tow package was installed during the late 1990's, it was used to occasionally tow a small boat to a local lake and eventually out to where it now resides in Montgomery, Texas. The two speed Jet-a-way automatic transmission shifts perfectly and is amazingly quick given the weight/age of this car. I installed air shocks in the rear so the ride comfort and height are adjustable. The drum brakes have a slight pull to the left which should be addressed before it worsens. There’s also a nice removable/lockable Grant steering wheel which comes in handy when parking is non-secure areas. The tires have around half the tread remaining and the rims are solid and in good shape with locking lug nuts & corresponding key. The dual mufflers/exhaust give out a deep throaty roar when the 4 barrel Edelbrock carburetor is set free. ELECTRICALS: Everything stills works (except the map light and the back seat courtesy lights). I had Syndicated of San Diego install an AM/FM/CD stereo with a huge amp and giant base speaker in the trunk. It can easily crank tunes loud enough to be heard with the top down doing 85 on the freeway. There’s also a Mallory electric ignition installed so no old fashioned points to mess with. I put an under dash kill switch in there too. The convertible top raises and lowers as it should and there is a cover for it when in the down position. MISCELLANEOUS: Comes with 2 sets of original keys, a box of spare parts, original hub caps, car history/literature and the car cover. Clear California title with current 5 year classic car Texas registration. This ’69 Olds Cutlass S convertible has served me well for over 35 years, never once stranded me and I’d now like to find it a good home. Please don’t buy this car if you plan on using it just for parts or to turn it into some 442 clone. Admittedly it’s in need of paint, a new top and a carpet kit, but beyond that it really is a truly dependable car that’s ready for fun in the sun. Note this car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to terminate this auction at any point. Feel free to email me for questions and/or to request additional photos. Thanks for reading and happy bidding!
